It's best for your sugar to be dissolved before adding your yeast culture. Try boiling the ginger and water with your sugar and bring it down to body temperature. Strain the odds and ends off and add your culture.💪 you'll have a cleaner, more effective product that prevents you from putting in too much work after it has fermented

this reminds me of river cottage hedge row ginger ale they made but you should wash your lemons when you get them from the store

Great first try 🙂👍🏼 if you want more taste of the ginger, you can boil it for 10 minutes and let it cool down to room temperature before straining it and putting it in the yeast...

Yes, that also helps sanitize the ginger peel, which can harbor lactic bacteria.

Brother you should have put the lid on and shaken the water and sugar to dissolve the sugar. The yeast has an easier time converting the sugar into alcohol if the sugar is in solution

Thanks for the video mate, gonna give it a go next week as I'm waiting on my ginger bug to be ready. Do you think if u just loosely leave the cap on the water bottle that will be OK rather than using the airlock and bung? Can't get anything at the moment due to lockdown

Yes

you should have def give it a vigorous shake to mix the sugar and ingredients properly and it helps introduce air which yes the yeast needs at first to start quickly

Flip the lemon halves around so the cut side is down in the squeezer. That being said, great video. I'll be using your recipe in the next couple of weeks. I have some apple cider fermenting right now and decided to try ginger beer.

Dont bother, this recipe sucks. You need to simmer the ginger to extract flavor.

Now I know it seems strange but you're actually using the juicer the wrong way around. Open side of the citrus to the bottom and dry side up. Make sure to peel though as it'll get extremely bitter with skin on. Did this ferment by the way? I've heard / read that adding lemons at the early stage can slow down the fermentation as yeast struggles in acidic ph's.

I got quite drunk off it. So I guess so. But I'll be honest. I regretted so much lemon.

using your juicer upside down, that is the fruit should go face down and not up.

Finally Airlock cap not removed why?.

You know that's the absolute wrong way to use that juicer...you're supposed to put the lemon/lime in face down. It juices much easier and WAY more efficiently.
