Making an Angle Brace

Participants of the Beginning Farmer Rancher Development Program work with SDSU Extension staff to build angle braces.

Everything if fine here except the twisted bottom wire. I make this type using oil-well pipe for the angle brace, notching the bottom end to hold smooth wire in place and then I use a ratchet strainer to tighten that wire. Good to have something solid on the bottom end of the angle brace -- a flat rock is good, but an old disc blade or plow moldboard is better.

Poorly done. The brace rail needs to be longer and placed lower on the end post at about half the height of the top strand of fence wire. This will reduce the chance of the post jacking up out of the ground. Use a concrete paver block under the end of the brace. Use a wire tensioner on two wraps of wire and tighten until the end post starts to move away. SDSU Extension really???

As a time spent fencer of 26 years its hard t explain how painfull it was t watch this. Theres a skill an craftsmanship t good fencing ,not like in this video

The brace is heavier than the post! Need to use an 8" minimum diameter post and a 4" diameter stay for a decent job.

Don’t do this it it’s a bodge completely wrong way of doing it go on a fencing group and ask a contractor how to do it
