The movie was so absorbing. You felt you were there on No Mans Land. It was awful stomach and felt so realistic. Great perspective from director. It is absolutely terrifying. It is no wonder that war torn surviving soldiers suffered PTSD etc. Every soldier on all sides of the battle endured this terror. I had to avert my eyes at times as was so bloody, but this is the reality of war. This continues today. Extremely educational and made the viewer think that every soldier was simply fodder for the war effort. This war simply eradicated thousands of fathers, sons, uncles and nephews, etc. Same goes on today (2023) in Ukraine and Afghanistan to name but a few. Great direction, cinematography, production, setting and costumes, and the music was so eerie and cleverly scored. The actors immersed you in their roles in the war front. Just simply emotional and at the same time, so sad.

The movie follows a soldier. There is nothing special about the soldier except for the fact that this main character not only represents all German soldiers, but all soldiers that experience the horror of war. This movie was an absolute masterpiece.
@dynamo1796 Жыл бұрын
You make an excellent point here actually. Several war films (even where anti-war) make out the key protagonists as these greater characters - they are somehow empowered and emboldened by the story and we get the sense that they're a little bit untouchable by the events around them.1917 suffers this to some effect, Saving Private Ryan is very affected by this and in many ways some classics like A Bridge Too Far are also a little disconnected. All Quiet On The Western Front however is quite the opposite. The main character could be any of the other lads in his regiment, he represents them but is not made more powerful by it - he is just as frail and disposable as the others and (of course he is killed in the end). It does a great job of zooming into the life of one particular soldier, but does not elevate that soldier for it. When you zoom back out, you see hundreds of Pauls running, fighting and dying all across the field of battle. Its just so striking and unnerving in many ways, but this film is a true masterpiece and a piece of history for the ages.

He was very artistic, I have a wood carving and a couple paints he did and he hoped to study art. However his mother who seemed old world Swiss, made him drop out of school and work at age of 12. Watching that movie made me understand why and how he lost his mind in the trenches. When my dad went to war in WWll my grandfather was terrified my father would be killed. Unbelievable film. I don't believe there has been a film that depicts the horror of war like this one does. It's an impressive piece of film making, a masterpiece for the ages. It is a shame it was not shown in theaters here in the US, unless it was and I missed it.

..... Do you know Jesus Christ can set you free from sins and save you from hell today Jesus Christ is the only hope in this world no other gods will lead you to heaven There is no security or hope with out Jesus Christ in this world come and repent of all sins today Today is the day of salvation come to the loving savior Today repent and do not go to hell Come to Jesus Christ today Jesus Christ is only way to heaven Repent and follow him today seek his heart Jesus Christ can fill the emptiness he can fill the void Heaven and hell is real cone to the loving savior today Today is the day of salvation tomorrow might be to late come to the loving savior today Romans 6.23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. John 3:16-21 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God. Mark 1.15 15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel. 2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. Hebrews 11:6 6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Jesus

Amazing movie that inspired me to go read the book which is just as good. I love how their deaths are all without purpose, no one dies being a “hero” it just shows the useless carnage of war

I LOVE this film!! One of the best war films ever made. As an aspiring filmmaker, this is inspiring piece of work! It makes me want to go outside, make a film! Make a film that puts YOU there in the trenches, and let's YOU experience the horrors of war.

Generally i only watch english speaking films but i actually come across "All Quiet on western front" via another youtube video where they get experts to rate war movies ect, But i did watch it and i'm glad that i did with subtitles because this is the films i love but this film its got to be a 10/10 for me because 1. Its over 2 hours long which is a huge plus, 2. The emotional journey of Paul 3. I was that invested in the film it felt like i was there in the moment.

The start felt rushed, they should have told us in a caption how long the main character has been enlisted between getting hit uniform to when his first friend died.

One of the most striking details in this film is that Paul’s dental health deteriorates throughout the movie
@johanna2690 Жыл бұрын
I thought that was a bit over the top. They didn't eat that much (the teeth have time to remineralize) and had no sweets. Of course his dental hygiene was lacking. But he was a young man and the movie only followed him for a few months. When watching the movie it actually made it feel less realistic.
