Making an Icon | Episode 4: Creating AquaDome

The video acknowledges the drawbacks of putting the AquaDome higher and at the bow of the ship around the 4:00 mark. We recently had a show postponed on Wonder of the Seas due to rough seas, and the AquaTheater is low and at the stern. So I cannot imagine that this is ultimately a good idea. I understand wanting to utilize a space for more than one purpose, but placing the AquaDome there on the Icon is a head scratcher.

@RoyalCaribbean I’d love to get a deeper look at the engineering of the Icon! For instance, water transport and filtration for pools, food service metrics (amount of food, size of dry pantries/refrigerators/freezers/kitchens), engines and propulsion, etc. that would be fascinating!!

So excited about the Icon! Is the overall height of the Icon going to be about the same as the 236 foot height of the Oasis class ships from the waterline? Or will it be a little taller?

Baltic sea only access is thru Danish straights and there is a big bridge between Denmark-Sweden, which limits maximum height. Also Danish straight depth is limited.

I really don’t foresee the icon class leaving the United States for the next 5 years and they’re definitely not coming to the baltics for at least the next 15 years. Oasis has never been there, and I don’t see any reason why they would take icon out of the caribbean the most popular and profitable cruising destination.
