First off, brilliant craftsmanship my friend. You are amazing :) Simply, one of the best sheathes I've seen. I make knives, but I don't make sheathes. Ian, I'm using this vid to learn how to make a similar sheath, and the most important part is kinda skipped over - the "frog", the yellow paper you were fitting at the end of the video, can you tell me how you sew the leather together and to the belt loop? It eludes me. Thanks, anyway!

I would love to see how the strap/belt loop were attached to each other. (And if there's anything holding them to the sheath besides that stud). I'm working on a sheath for a massive bowie the cheap sheath fell apart on, and figuring the guard area out is giving me issues. Doing this for free for a friend, but I'd still like it to come out nice.
@TheMrWillje6 жыл бұрын
That type of sheath is common for traditional bowies. The sheath for the knife has a stud in the front, and the belt loop that attaches to that stud is called the frog. There's nothing else but the stud keeping it in place, but that's okay since gravity does the work and if the size ratio of the stud compared to the hole is on the larger side, then it's very difficult for the knife to come loose. So difficult that it's never come off without you wanting it to. It's actually my favourite type of sheath. Very comfortable to wear.

Where the belt loop is, once you put the strip of leather on the stud then rap the left side around then the belt loop over that then the right side goes behind the belt loop. But how does it all stay together, without falling apart(once stiched of course)?

Greetings from the Great White North. Nice video once again, Ian. I know you have improved your skills over the many years since you uploaded this. Since this was posted in 2013, what would you do differently today, if you had to make this sheath over? Thanks again for posting this build.

Man, that's a gorgeous sheath. Do you have a video where you go over the tools you use for making sheaths? I just got a bunch of leather scraps and some various basic craft style leatherworking tools to make bracelets and what not but im looking to get what I need to make sheaths and other basic stuff. Also how do you like that dremel drill press station thing you have? Ive got one of the better corded dremel tools, the 4000, and I had been looking at that little work station for awhile now but haven't heard much about it.
