Thanks for this video. I'm new to DMR - purchased a Retevis RT3S partially due to your reviews. I had OpenGD77 and was up and talking via my local repeater quickly thanks to this video!

I just installed Opengd77 on my uv380 earlier today. It took me about an hour all together. Most of that writing the new code plug. People tend to panic when the first hear "code plug". Basically every radio needs a code plug. Even analog radios but with less info. It was quick for me because I only wrote 41 channels and group contacts. Easy built in import of IDs and it even pulls them from the source.

Since DMR started out on commercial and municipal radios, I think the archaic term code plug has been kept around to make the radio config guy's job sound more complex than it is. "You need me to add these channels to the radios? Give me a couple of weeks to write a new code plug."

Thank you so much. Simple and understandable. I just converted my RD-5R to GD77. I instantly became lost. 🤣

APRS on the RT3S? It would be digital APRS then, and I really haven't looked into that.

Thank you! If you want sponsored gear, I can tell you the secret. Start a KZbin channel, spend on average 20 hours a week working on the channel. Buy camera gear, microphones and software licenses for video production. Spend a bit more money on ham radio gear. Do this for about three years and you’ll see some sponsored items arrive. Not enough to cover your costs though. That’s what it takes. None of the hamtubers do this for the money, we do this for the love of the hobby.

Thanks for the walk through, Morten. I dont really know anything about OpenGD77 yet. What radio do you recommend for it?
@LB0FI8 ай бұрын
I have only tried it with the Retevis RT3S, so I have no bigger frame of reference than that.

I got an old Radioddity GD-77 at a secondhand store and since this software is called OpenGD77, I can assume it will work with this radio. I'm just starting in DMR and find it terribly confusing. Should I just stick with the original GD-77 codeplug software or get this OpenGD77? Which would be easier? We have only one repeater here that does DMR (it also does DSTAR and Fusion) and I won't be getting a hotspot. So I'll likely want to program in quite a few of our analog repeated. I did happen to get a DMR ID already so I'm good there. So far I've installed a blank codeplug into the radio so I could actualy use it. The person before me had in a password that I could not crack. Now I can get into the radio at least. I put in the original software codeplug, not the Open GD77

OpenGD77 should definetly be good on this radio. There are some good instructions on the OpenGD77 website on how to do it, and if you have some experience on loading custom firmware on devices you should be good.

Hi Morten, Does that mean that retevis still upholds its warranty even if you flash it with gd77?

If i add a digital repeater with a frequency split either vhf or uhf the RT3S won't transmit. Only flashing red led. Analog repeater splits are fine. Digital on hotspot either vhf or uhf are fine. Any ideas what im doing wrong?

THX for your Video. Why is also a field in the Chanel Windows for the TS? You select the TS in the Talkgroup window. What is the diffrent?

Because you can override the setting in the talk group window as far as I understand.
