A quick video about how I made these stunning little birds out of old cutlery.
1 long handled serving item
2 large dessert spoons
1 medium dessert spoon
4 teaspoons
2 ball bearings
scrap 1/4 inch ssquare stock
welding filler rod
I love these little birds. Elegant in their simplicity and looks. These will be in my store shortly. Any bird can be made to order, have a look through my store or gallery and feel free to contact me directly.

👍 Very nice. Can't say the same for your camera angle though, getting constantly elbow blocked is jarring. If you could find a couple of old , junked, girder type articulating desk lamps, a little fabrication for your camera mounting need and fasten them to that wall in front of you would be some perfect placement opportunities. Thanks for sharing.

Love it dude...Q; How do you run settings?, you don't seem to get much splatter?? Cheers Paul.

Hi Paul, thanks alot. Not sure what your welding set up is but ... ... Too much splatter is one of a couple of things (said the actually not very proficient welder!) So .. if you are trying to weld stainless steel (cutlery) then first off you need a gas MIG or TIG. You can weld it gasless with flux core wire but honestly it's not even nearly a nice weld, too many imperfections / contaminants in the weld and the results will be weak and porous .. and yes, a shit ton of splatter! At best you'd be going over the same welds over and again to get a nice finish. I use 95% Argon / 5% Co2 in the MIG and 100% pure Argon on the TIG. If you try using pub gas (co2 only) it wont give great results. Fine for mild but awful with stainless. 2nd, gotta make sure the materials are as clean as possible or you'll get imperfections in the weld pool that lead to more splatter, especially true of TIG. You can buy 'anti splatter' spray but its not gonna do anything on stainless and even on mild it wont cure the problem totally. As for the cutlery itself ... generally it comes in different grades. 18/8, 18/10 etc. So this is telling you that the amounts of nickel and chromium in the material are different. I suspect these different grades have an impact on the weld / potential splatter too but generally with the right gas there is no problem.

@@JohnNorrisMetalSculpture Thanx for response dude! I'm new to welding and have a gasless MIG system, which I suggest is in the handyman range. I guess I will just have to try speed/feed settings to see which suits. Love ya work. Cheers Paul

@@paulconnell2385 I am a long way from a 'good' welder. My MIG is quite literally the cheapest gas MIG i could find. I do think you will struggle with stainless without the shielding gas but I'm not a real expert. Might be worth googling / youtubing 'welding stainless without gas' and seeing what you find but i suspect it wont help much. Best of luck, thansk for the comment!
