In my area of Southern Ontario, Canada the walnuts usually start falling by the 2nd week of September. This year they are very late, and the trees are almost empty. Sad winter ahead for the squirrels. Finally today I had to start knocking them off the tree. Even worse,a lot of the nuts are rotting right on the tree with very soft spots on the nut. BTW, a walnut tincture will last 10 years as long as it is kept in a dark glass and in the refrigerator. You can also make the tincture with water for anyone who abstains. Thanks Sherpa!

Organic 100 proof vodka would be best but it can be expensive. As to extra strength, black walnut is already pretty strong, don't try to make a pharmaceutical grade plant medicine, some are too strong to be used even casually or for any length of time. Do your research.

I've done it both ways. No difference except by using the whole shell, you need more alcohol to cover it up. This time I cut them into thin round slices, and only needed to use 8 ounces of vodka! I will just need to drain them for a little longer. BTW, you can store a little bottle in the fridge in a DARK GLASS bottle. I had my last one for 10 years.

Better off cutting them and using everything but the seed. The point of the tincture is to extract from the skin and flesh, not the seed. You can get more alcohol contact with skin if you remove the seed.

Great video. With 40% alcohol you are making a fluid extract. Meaning you are extracting more water soluble substances than alcohol soluble. A tincture uses 80 or higher alcohol content. The meditational value will be similar enough to do the job. A great way to learn about the process and use. Using wet vers dry product also effects the amount of water in the mix. Below 60% also effects storage. The resulting fluid extract will not last as long as the tincture of high alcohol content. Store at 80% thin to 40 to 60% for use.
@SurvivalSherpa7 жыл бұрын
Do you think it's too late to transfer the hulls to, say, Everclear? And should the hulls be dehydrated before tincturing to increase potency? Thanks for the enlightening feedback.
@shantaloft7 жыл бұрын
Survival Sherpa you can shift them over to everclear. That will give you a true tincture. Normally tinctures are made with dry herbs powdered. Turning daily. The smaller powder the better the extraction. The fluid extract you made will work. If can get more Walnuts I would dry and powder that and make a new batch of tincture. Now you can compare the differences between them. Right you have a backpack full. Do wish we had some here in the north shewsawp. As you said it makes a great dye to.

@SurvivalSherpa7 жыл бұрын
lol, I'm debating on whether to do the cordwood challenge again or build a log cabin... hummm. Yeah, black walnut is very desirable for woodworking, gun stocks, spoon carving, etc. It's a tight, straight grained wood that takes a carving knife well.
@emlillthings79147 жыл бұрын
Log-cabin/shed has been discussed as an extra in the CAC. I thought I'd try that as well, but I am willing to settle for less than a full cord. My last CAC was just a 1/4 cord, half being limbs, other half being the biggest pieces from the (sloppily) hewed stem. I might've reached full cord if I went in for that solely, but still, it passed... Since you've already made over a full cord on the previous one, a 1/4-1/2 cord as a byproduct from making a log-cabin/shed is sure good enough. Especially if you managed to build parts of the cabin with axe-only (+ mallet.).

You may be more sensitive, it's not uncommon. I guess the question would be, can you eat walnut's? If you find worms some say discard some say just remove, me personally if a worm survived in that environment (because it kills worms) I would discard. If you decide to do this tincture I would recommend considering your sensitivity I would do equal parts vodka and distilled water to lower the potency.

It's this the same so the California black walnut tincture from the California black walnut Hull tree because I heard that one is more powerful than the other and if the tincture is black then it's less effective so I've learned that using lemon juice and olive oil or extra virgin that is to put into the liquid tincture to keep it the same color as the whole green and keep in the refrigerator for longer use and what's the lemon juice does and the extra virgin olive oil keeps it from oxidizing faster than it normally would do if any hits air and the lemon juice and extra virgin olive oil is the protector barrier to protect it from the air so that it Chan stay Green for a more effective use

If they sit too long they'll turn black. Hard and green is fine to use. People even use them when they turn black.

Sherpa, I took a piece of plywood and drilled three different sized holes (about the size of the nut) and banged them thru with a hammer. It worked well, much easier but kinda messy

Black Walnut is potent, It's great as a detoxer, But if somebody's really sick or having overload of toxins once you start taking black walnut it can be very difficult so I would say go with it really slow for those people who know they have heavy metal poisoning or are really trying to purge..... If you're really trying to clear your system you will also have to take one or two steam rooms a week and then the key is you must take a thorough shower after every steam room session most people don't know that and they almost don't understand the reasoning to take a shower but the reasoning is you must get the toxins out/and off of your body/ black walnut is all about toxic overload It is helping to clear the body of the most harmful. And yes I work in healthy healing now for 33 years

Not the best knife selection for this purpose. Should've used a chef knife.

It would be better and much more potent if you would grind them up into a powder before making your tincture. The way you're showing it here is mostly making "pickled" walnut hulls. "Pickled" in alcohol that is. The most effective and time saving method is to use an ultrasonic cleaner to make the tincture. You can make the most potent tincture in days rather than weeks. How and why? The ultrasonic vibration helps extract the nutrients and oils from the Black Walnut Hull Powder much faster than just letting it sit and soak for six weeks.
