Hear me out. Dehumidify the coffee first. (Maybe even grind it up finer before that step) then cuppify it. Then use stabilizing resin to fill all the tiny voids. Finally apply a food-safe clear resin coating. Then you've got a decent merch product. Especially if you put an HPC logo on the cuppifier so it emboosed it on the inside bottom.

Sounds like a good plan. Definitely doable, just has to follow the correct process for sealing and strengthening.

That's gonna have to be pretty expensive, unless they just make it out of out of date coffee (which would be ideal tbh, since you're not, y'know, drinking it, would do a number on the coffee supply in Finland if they just used off the shelf coffee lol). Otherwise yeah, that would actually work really well, I've seen people do a similar trick with guitars, just filling it with resin and making a coffee-resin guitar body that just perpetually smells like coffee lol. EDIT: Then again, if the coating fails then it's probably gonna ruin your coffee and potentially be a safety hazard lol. Loootta caffeine in that bad boy.

The top ~20mm of the "cuppinator" should probably be more like a piston to press everything that rises from the bottom back down when the top die reaches the bottom one. I suspect much of the cracking at the bottom is from material moving up through the die without pressure from the top to pack it back together. It would also solve your coffee bean escape problem : can't escape anymore once the "piston" part of the dies meet.

Ground coffee can make some fairly solid pucks from having hot water put through under pressure, maybe try with slightly damp grounds or use beans and make a really fine grind. Bagged pre-ground coffee tends to be aimed more for cafetierres and filter paper brews than for espresso. Freeze dried stuff with have gone to powder which would have allowed it to get compressed more. Makes me think you could probably press a small cube or disc from a teaspoon of coffee

Size the tablets into whatever increments (or fractions, like a half or quarter cup so you can adjust to taste) the directions give to make a cup... Then you don't need a spoon to measure, just the little stir sticks they have at coffee prep areas.

@lajoswinkler13 сағат бұрын
Dehydrated coffee is highly hygroscopic so you got some moisture in it and that's what was leaking upon pressing it. Not only is it hygroscopic, it is deliquescent - moisture would eventually completely destroy this cup, turning it into sludge.
@Rick586Күн бұрын
To prevent stuff escaping the cupenator, maybe you could fit a rubber dome-ring-thing around the the cupenator itself? The end result would look a lot like a toilet plunger, where the rubber presses against the big metal tube that has been filled with whatever is going to be cup-ified, and then the pressure of the press itself will prevent anything from escaping (assuming the rubber doesn't explode from the pressure).
@LA6NPAКүн бұрын
Awesome! Cupinator 10 million should have a leading pipe and the top tool should fit snugly in the pipe so that the beans can't escape and the top of the cup gets more pressure! Also, please try coffe for boiling, for drip and espresso (three different grit sizes)!
@chincemagnetКүн бұрын
We use presses to make powdered metal parts that keep their shape for quite a long time without needing to be sintered. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen green parts (compacted powder metal forms not yet sintered) sit for months. But it can be done. I’m sure coffee grounds don’t bind as well as iron-carbon alloys designed specifically for compaction. However, we also use other tooling to help split the density, so it’s got an even density throughout, and not just on the top or bottom half, which would probably explain why your cup isn’t holding together well. Something that size may also require more tonnage.

A 2 part top tool would do wonders for containing the material you are making cups from. The fit would need to be around .01mm clearance between the outer first stage, and the inner second stage. The lower die seems to be rather good. Looking forward to the next experiment.
@Qui-9Күн бұрын
Awesome. I think the mould should be designed to trap all the powder in the cup shape before pressing it, so that only air can escape during pressing. Then maybe the top of the cup can become pressed too. Maybe less cracking.
@test-rj2vlКүн бұрын

This press could make quality gunpowder (compression of damp meal powder into a solid 'puck', which is then allowed to dry before being broken into granules, is a vital part of the 'art' of making quality gunpowder). PS: obviously, this compression can't be used for mixes containing any potentially sparking material, such as metal filings or metal powders. And the gunpowder must be adequately moistened before compressing. It is only suitable for conventional saltpeter-based gunpowder. Compression cannot be used for mixes containing chlorates/halates or perchlorates/perhalates! Obviously, you must only use a bare minimum of pressure to compress damp mealpowder into a puck.
