Making pain relieving salve from the Comfrey plant. It has been used for thousands of years just for the beneficial medicinal properties.
I am not a Doctor or make any medical claims. I do use this in my household for relief from minor arthritis/joint pain and sprains.
Beeswax I use is available on Amazon by clicking here:

I am growing Comfrey. I am planning to make a salve. I have arthritis in my shoulders and is very painful. I used a Comfrey leaf on my big toe when I dropped a cement steppingstone on it. Was excruciating when I did it. After I wrapped the leaf around my toe and left it there for a coupe hours, the pain was almost gone. Amazing plant, what a gift from God!

I’ve made salves for years. I never had an issue with cleaning up with using bees wax. Heat up the pan, use a paper towel to wipe out and then wash with soap and water. I use the paper towels for fire starters. Rule of thumb is one ounce of bees wax to 8 oz oil. When heating oils try to keep temp 115F or lower. High can destroy the benefits of the olive oil or any oil). And it is loaded with benefits. Adjust amounts to your liking. I have bought a with Achilles tendinitis, bursitis and plantar fasciitis. All in one ankle/foot. This works wonderfully.

I’ve had plantar fasciitis for over 18 months and I’ve been wondering if I could use comfrey to heal it. I walk with a limp and haven’t even able to wear normal shoes in so long.

@@unnamed2737 mine has gotten so much better. I didn’t put as much bees wax in it the last time I made it. It was just the comfrey infused olive oil and enough bees wax to make it thick liquid. I massage it into the back of my ankle and heel/arch area. Then I prop it up and let it soak in and the tendons/muscles relax from the massage. You can also try rolling a frozen water bottle, a tennis or a golf ball - last two not frozen. Calf pumps is also great. I have also used the over the counter Lidocaine lotions at the beginning of the flair up. This last time with the Achilles tendinitis, bursitis and plantar fasciitis flaring up at the same time the exercises were extremely painful. I started out doing 10 and worked up to 30 at a time. That has taken 6 weeks. I still have some pain but it is slowing receding. Mine started last summer. Would get better then worse then better. Have you had your foot xrayed to make sure there’s no breaks? My heart goes out to you. 18 months is a very long time.

I made some comfrey salve and ground my dehydrated comfrey into a powder and used it that way. Keeping the powder IN the salve. Although I didn't infuse it for the 4+ weeks. I'm thinking I should have now. I did use vitamin E though! I like your method of using it in "leaf" form dried and having a more "cleaner" looking finished product by straining it out. I will try this method next! Thank you for sharing your knowledge!!

I am not sure what the amount would be. I have never used just powdered comfrey to start an infused oil. But I think to use it, it would be best to do the heated method, which is adding the powdered comfrey to oil and heat it at the lowest temperature for 24 hours. I would experiment with the amount of powder. When I made the Rosemary Comfrey, my oil was already infused and I added 1 Teaspoon of powdered comfrey to it, just as a guide. But I think experiment is the key and it depends on how much you are making as well. Good Luck!

The comfrey, to me, is like a medicinal type smell. But it is not unpleasant. I do not mind it at all. When you are warming the oil in the pot, you will smell the scent of the comfrey. If you do not prefer the smell, just have some essential oils on hand and add about 30-40 drops of whatever scent you prefer. It depends on individual preference. As for what Comfrey is used for, it is for muscle aches, soreness, joint pain, arthritis...things of that nature. God Bless ❤

@CHwT
@CHwT 26 күн бұрын
@@Mister.Doodler You will have to dry the roots first. To do that: Wash the roots well and chop them into smaller pieces. Lay them on your dehydrator trays and give them ample space for proper airflow. Dehydrate them at 130-140 degrees F for 5-8 hours. Alternatively, you can string them up on thread like bunting and let them dry naturally. The roots should be dry and crumbly before you use them to make comfrey oil. Once they are dry, add them to the jar and fill with your coconut oil. ❤

I have never tried doing that, but I think it should be ok. I would try melting just a little and see how it turns out in the end. If it does, by all means, melt the rest and jar it up. Also, if you keep the salve in the refrigerator, it will stay harder. I do that and just take it out a few minutes before I use it. If you leave it out after refrigeration, you would see water drops on the top, but it does not harm the product any. Good Luck.

I added about 1/4 cup of Beeswax. It leaves the salve very soft. If you want a firmer salve, you can add more Beeswax. You will have to experiment depending on how firm you prefer the salve to be. Also, if the salve ends up being too soft, you can keep it stored in the refrigerator. It will also last longer. Just remove it a few minutes to soften before you want to apply it.

I have never done that, however, If you remove the beeswax, it would not solidify any and would be just a runny liquid. Beeswax is needed to make it the salve consistency. You can substitute the coconut oil for olive oil, but not sure what the shelf life would be then. Hope this helps. ❤

@@CHwT Hello from Melbourne, Australia. It is recommended now to only use comfrey salve /ointment for no longer than 4-6 weeks per year due to the Pyrrolizidine alkaloids(PA). Daily applied dosage should not exceed 100mcg of Pyrrolizidine alkaloids. 5 comfrey leaves contain about 5mg of PA. PA is higher in roots than leaves. PA is genotoxic and tumorigenic just so you know! Can damage the liver. There are cases of individuals dying (of those that took excess and more likely ingested it). Thanks for the video!

I have never heard of not being able to use this daily as a topical, because I do. But so many things come out all around it is hard to keep up. @CHwT
@CHwT 10 ай бұрын
It is not recommended to use the leaves fresh as they can mold in the oil when infusing and stagnate the oil. If you do not want to wait for the leaves to dry on their own, you can cut them and lay the fresh leaves out into the sun for a few hours (hotter day the better) until they wilt very well. Then cut and use them. But drying is really the best way to go and if you hang bunches, they will not take long to dry on their own. Hope this helps. God Bless ❤

You have to let the leaves sit in the oil for a minimum of 3-4 weeks before making the salve. This is to get the full infusion of the comfrey. The longer it sits, the better the oil will infuse. You can also add powdered comfrey after infusion for added comfrey strength if desired. God Bless ❤

He just went for a follow up x-rays to see how the brak is comming along. Anyway, The Dr told my friend that they are healing veary slow and he is not happy about it. It has been sitting 2 weeks now And it is a very dark green. Do you think i could make the Sav now, ??? . Will it ne strong enough to do some good . I am not really sure what to say other than you could try making it from what you already have sitting. I have never used powder to infuse the oil, so I am not sure if it would be stronger or take less time or anything. I could only suggest you go ahead and make it, but also maybe have more sitting for the entire length of time for maybe another batch later on. You can also take comfrey powder and make a paste from it that I heard works as well, but again, I have never done this. I am sorry I can not really give you a guaranteed answer to your question, It sure would not hurt to go ahead and use the 2 week oil as it will do some good I would think. Comfrey is not a miracle cure for sure, but I would think it could help your friend and certainly worth a try.
