Hi yes I seal with a clear varnish, is this correct? Please can I ask what primer do you use. Many thanks Mary (Bath UK).
@mrconcreteartisan3 жыл бұрын
Clear varnish is good,give it a couple days to dry completely .I used to use a spray on shellac ,but strted getting some mixed results on occasion with my rubber.Learned from a wood working buddy ,that shellac has a very long cure time.So needless to say I don't use it anymore.On concrete I use a water based concrete sealer. On plaster models I use a varnish oir a thinner based concrete sealer.I do also recommend for all porous materials www.smooth-on.com/product-line/superseal/. Hope this helps.

Retire! Your too young, lucky you :) Question, I use acrylic paint and the colours fade and lose there brightness, what am I doing wrong? Love your work

Really nice Gris A+ I like the jade and i am amazed how well the buddha with the dragon came out .every time i see it. Thanks for the vid.. Will you be trying the jade on the buddha with the dragon ? .or do you just make them as ordered. Could you do another walk through of your store once you have all the new statues in it . ?
@mrconcreteartisan6 жыл бұрын
Maybe the jade on the buddha,I do all the orders first then I move on to getting some in the store.This week I will do more for the store.Funny my wife just said yesterday ,"You haven't done a store walk through this year." I'll try and do one next week.

Good morning Gris.a few questions. do you put any wire or anything in the dragon wings? I have a large gargoyle with thin wings simmilar to the dragon and people always want to pick it up by the wings and of course they break. also . i watched the video on the little vent tubes you put in areas where air would get trapped. did you put them on the ears of the buddha with the space between the arm and the body. . is there a rule of thumb that you use to decide where you want to put one ? Thanks for all your videos.
@mrconcreteartisan6 жыл бұрын
Good morning as well Tom , Hope you've been well.Putting the wire in these wings is ridiculously difficult ,have done on other similar molds,and I'm not happy ,as the wire on occasion touches the surface ,and I think it looks like.... well you know lol.Lets face it even if you have wire in them and someone picks it up by the wings ,still going to break ,just not fall apart.So here's what I do now.I use a ton of AR (alkaline resistant) fibers in my mix for delicate models.We also don't let folks pick up any statuary at the store, and when they purchase we give them some instructions on how to pick up and place the pieces as well as care and maintenance.When I load them in cars or trucks ,I always tell them to pay attention how I handle them.Of coarse the biggest is never pick up the damn things by the wings lol. I think I'll do a vid on vents , easier to show than type all day haha. Take care Tom ,all the best.

Hi gris, I have another question for you buddy with regards to your finishes. The gold/silver base coat you put on the buddha etc, do you still put a watered down black base coat on first before the gold or is it just straight on with The metalic? Thanks a lot gris
@mrconcreteartisan4 жыл бұрын
Here you go my friend, this will answer the question ,just the base coat and then the wash. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oGOsloyAbNWGf5I
@MrTabletman4 жыл бұрын
Thanks gris, so the base is not watered down or anything just straight on the statue? Then the wash Thanks dude

@@mrconcreteartisan ty very much! How many coats? Do you dilute it to impregnate?
@edwardmurray22843 жыл бұрын
@@mrconcreteartisan multiple coats? Do you use a house painting brush? Is it nonyellowing?
@mrconcreteartisan3 жыл бұрын
@@edwardmurray2284 No I don't dilute , there are different finishes available to you ,natural ,low luster ,semi gloss and hi gloss. The natural is good to seal concrete and have it looking exactly as it did to start ,goes on dark but when it's dry ,it goes back to natural ,two coats are sufficient. Hi gloss for a nice shiny painted piece anywhere from two to five coats depending on the shine you wish to acheive. At home I give all my pieces another coat in the spring every year.
@mrconcreteartisan3 жыл бұрын
@@edwardmurray2284 Non yellowing,house paint brush or a cheap craft chip brush works too. Hope this helps you out ,good luck in all your endeavors!!
