First I want to say is that is a beautiful looking knife. The main reason I am leaving a comment is I have watched hundreds of knife making videos you are the second person I have seen who knows how to use a file. It drives me crazy when people do not lift the file off the material rather they drag it back towards them. As you know files cut in one direction and you are doing nothing other than dulling the file by not lifting it off on return pass. I am a tool maker for over 28 years. Good work and good procedures

7:04 I always wondered how you find the correct spot for the angle. I aways thought it involved some precise mesurement and fancy equations. To see that it is just try and error made me feel like my approach would be way to complicated. But other than that the knife and the video editing are look great, except the transitions between one song to another could be a bit smoother. Keep up the good work. :)

Slavik, I love your knives! And the videos are superb! I only wish I had the fortitude to keep my shop and even my bedroom as clean as you keep everything! LOL!, I do have a question though. What is the tool you clamp to your blades to get the perfect plunge lines that you get! I am trying to do everything by hand and, I hate to admit that my 65 year-old body isn't as steady as it used to be so, my bevels/plunge lines aren't anything to write home about! Where can I get one and what is the approximate cost of the beveling tool? As I said, I really like your knives and the beautiful videos! Keep up the great work! Best wishes!! BTW, what would your knife, the DEFAULT T-KNIFE, cost? If I can pull it off, as my wife and I are trying to live on disability checks, I'd love to own one of your knives, sometime in the future!

I was told the way to keep it clean is not to make a mess! As for blade clamp, are you talking about File guide or are you talking about File Jig? You must be talking about File Guide. My knives start from five hundred and fifty and go up. FG100 Hardened File Guide knifemaking.com

Hi Tely! What is the difference between cutting knife base from a prevoiusly prepared piece of steel and forging shape on your own on anvil ? Is your technique better or the 'ancient' one ? I know that your will be more symethrical, the other less but how about hardness of steel and flexibility of the blade ?
@youngknifemaker283
@youngknifemaker283 7 жыл бұрын
patrykolaf353 stock removal or forging... when you frge, the result will look less clean. but how u work the steel does not have an impact onto the quality of the blade or the steel.
@HKnives
@HKnives 7 жыл бұрын
If you are good at it forging can look as clean as stock removal. Forging also opens lots of door (damascus, integrals, san-mai...). Stock removal on the other hand allows for greater steel selection, mostly heavily alloyed and stainless steels
@youngknifemaker283
@youngknifemaker283 7 жыл бұрын
thats true. in my eyes damscus/ pattern welded and all kinds of forge welding are the only positive aspects in forging... and its a gteat workout. Some people also like the hammer texture finish thing
@youngknifemaker283
@youngknifemaker283 7 жыл бұрын
my main motivation for forging is the traditional aspect though... I'm kinda too inexperienced for damascus, wich is why I only forge kotantos and kiridashis.

I have been asked to make that video for a long time. Probably when the rain comes in and I am sitting home I will need to make it.

I really like the idea of making some knives just for myself or some friends. But have no clue on anything. I know the equipment is expensive. But i find it relaxing. Ive watched most of your videos. Which are really cool. Maybe do a commentary one explaining what every step is for.
