Silly question, how did you use a drill for this?
@mayhelencraft1787
@mayhelencraft1787 5 ай бұрын
@debby6679 I put the stick inside a hand drill and tighten it so it wouldn't fall out. Then wrapped a little of the sting around the stick to get it started then just pressed the button on the drill and helped feed it around to the end.

May I suggest you use metal knitting needles? If you use an iron to heat the needle after you put the yarn or ribbon on it you can have it within a few minutes. I do that with thin ribbon and it works every time Also you could put a little starch in your water and the curls will last longer and hold up well to humidity. The beauty of the knitting needles is the variety of sizes. That makes the project look more natural. I iron them dry but you can do it wet. You don't have to put the iron on the whole thin you just need to heat it up so use pliers to hold on to the end and yo I could use your electric stove to heat the needle. Just some suggestions, I hope you didn't mind me sending this to you. Have a great day day.

@DIYIsMyHappyPlace

I use this yarn on so many projects so I just wanted to show how to get it to curl. Depending on my projects I use different techniques for placing it on the crafts. The most common way is to wrap the yarn ends around pipe cleaners then glueing them to my projects. Go to minute 15:25 on this video for an example: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rXa7lH-aoryMbaMsi=NEpLPzzSGpF5446k

Love this creative idea! All your videos are inspiring. I am confused on how the pipe cleaners are used after baking…do you transfer the curly hair on to them and how. Sorry if I’m being ignorant but I played video over and over and I can’t get it through my thick brain. Thanks for sharing your wonderful ideas.
@DIYIsMyHappyPlace
@DIYIsMyHappyPlace Жыл бұрын
I’m sorry if that isn’t clear. I attached the curly yarn to a pipe cleaner so I didn’t have to glue each hair on individually. Once I had a line of yarn on a pipe cleaner, I glued the entire line to the top of the head. You can layer these until you have the thickness you desire for the hair. I hope that makes sense.

A batch I had made were still wet an hour after I took them out of the oven. Has this ever happened? Can this be fixed?
@DIYIsMyHappyPlace
@DIYIsMyHappyPlace 2 жыл бұрын
It has happened. It’s very humid here so I assumed that was the cause. I let them sit over night to make sure they were dry. It’s a pain to have to wait, but it’s worth it.

What kind of yarn do you use? I would be concerned about heating acrylic yarn. Also what weight yarn?
@DIYIsMyHappyPlace
@DIYIsMyHappyPlace 10 ай бұрын
I tried all different weights. Because it was such a low temperature in the oven, I had no problems! It's just warm enough to dry the yarn in position. Thanks for watching!

Have you ever had problems with the hair burning?
@DIYIsMyHappyPlace
@DIYIsMyHappyPlace 2 жыл бұрын
The first Batch I made, when I was still figuring out the temperature and timing, my yard had the edges brown a little bit. I will say, it is easy to forget they are in the oven because there really is no smell. I didn’t realize how much the smell of something baking reminds me when I’m cooking. For this reason, I highly recommend using the oven timer, so when it is done, it automatically turns off. I did have a batch I forgot about for about an hour and a half and with the low temperature, it was still just fine. No burning, thank goodness.

How do you attach to the gnome with the pipe cleaner? That part is a bit confusing to me.
@DIYIsMyHappyPlace
@DIYIsMyHappyPlace 8 ай бұрын
I hot glue the bottom of the hair to the gnome. The pipecleaner just holds the yarn together so it can be glued in large chicks instead of one piece of yarn at a time.

A bit of a dumb question here but I thought I better double check, when you say 200 degrees, is it in Fahrenheit or Celsius? I'm guessing from your accent it might be Fahrenheit? I mean 200 Celsius for 45 minutes would likely scorch the heck out of the wool/yarn, but I still gotta ask lol

Thank you for your great videos! I've already successfully tried some of the things you showed. Unfortunately this time things went wrong. I followed your instructions, but the result is terrible. Aside from the fact that the whole house now smells terribly, a few of the covered wooden sticks have stuck to my baking tray. The black wool has now turned brown and the bright orange wool has now turned an unsightly dark orange. It's the same with green. The wooden sticks underneath are charred and partly black. I set it to 200 degrees and also have a thermostat in the oven, so the temperature isn't to blame. I used Chinese chopsticks and also shish kebab skewers as sticks. I placed the baking sheet in the middle part of the oven. The wool is simple acrylic wool. I don't know what went wrong, but I'm glad we still have warm weather so I can leave the windows and doors open for a while to get the smell out. Do you have any idea what could have gone wrong? Kind regards from Austria :)
@friederikebrandl2290
@friederikebrandl2290 10 ай бұрын
OMG I think I just figured it out myself! You mention 200 degrees for the oven. But since we use degrees Celsius in Austria, that is where the error lies!! You probably meant 200 degrees Fahrenheit!? That's a huge difference in the heat and no wonder I burned so much! SORRY!! 🤪🤣
