I like the tape trick, a lot easier than trying to use cardboard or paper to make a template, crazy simple design too

Well, my first shipment of metal is coming today, supposedly, I have a small arc welder and we'll see if I can do this. Actually, I know I can, just need to start. Thanks again, B! 🖖😎

Nice fabrication but how much does it wiegh?
@lcarter194 Жыл бұрын
Nice project, A tilt ramp would have been cool. IMO overkill in the material. No need to weld the trailer hitch when a 2" bar extends would have done the job. I would see the work with a flux core welder? Thanks for sharing.

@AlexS-tf1wj4 жыл бұрын
Great job on this build, will you please give me the measurements so I can build my own?
@BasinBjorn4 жыл бұрын
Hey Alex! There is not that much to the sizing of it, I just made it stick out back far enough so the handlebar cleared the rear window. Width is slightly less than the car. The width of the platform is 12cm /5" and sized for a "motocross" tire. The aluminium platform could cover the whole base, I left that hole there since my aluminium sheet was only that long. The two "arms on the bottom right reach out almost as wide as the handlebar.

Hi mate, great job!. How much do you think is the max weight your rack can support based on the material you used? I'm thinking about buying or build something similar for 2 bikes, an enduro and XC bike. Thanks!
@BasinBjorn3 жыл бұрын
Well it feels sturdy, i guess at least 50-60kg should be fine. But two bicycles should absolutely not be an issue on a rack like this

Thanks! No I actually kept it like that, used it for a few trips and that worked fine. Got a new car so actually gave it away.

Have you considered constructing an fatScooter tow hitch rack? I saw one that youtuber Stan Cloyd built that was a flat plate with a clamping cover that essentially clamped the scooter around the foot board section and was secured with a padlock. I could only get glimpses of it. I’m interested in your thoughts?

Yeah that is a good idea, depending on how much weight the tow bar/hitch can take. My scooter is unfortunately sold but I built this rack in case I'd get some other high power e-bike in the future. I found two of his videos displaying that rack and a few thoughts: 1. There should be some rubber pad on the bottom of the "rack" to keep the scooter from sliding side to side / or scratching the underside. 2. Another easy way to secure it side to side would be to just add a loop/hook on the top of the rack, that folds over the scooter. Pretty much where the feet goes when riding it. And then using ratchet straps from the front and rear or the scooter, hooked to this loop, just to prevent it from moving sideways. 3. Making sure that lock and hinge is strong enough for any unexpected bumps. 4. Just make sure your hitch can carry that weight, I believe my scooter weighed somewhere around 60-80kg. Can't remember exactly. But that should or could be fine.

B as in Bjorn Thank you for the thoughts, too bad you sold your fat scooter. I enjoyed the videos :)

mate what is the thickness of the tube?
@BasinBjorn3 жыл бұрын
The bigger square tube is 40x40x2mm and the smaller is 30x30x1.5mm. These dimensions are only because that is what I had available to purchase at the time.
@ifell34 жыл бұрын
What made you choose square tubing over angle iron?
@BasinBjorn4 жыл бұрын
Hm, I think mainly availability and price in my local store. Actually they only had square and round tubing when I come to think about it.

@@BasinBjorn yeah seems like there are pros and cons to each and a lot of people just use what they have laying around.

I was surprised you didn't just remove your tow hitch and use a new piece of 2 inch pipe. Why would you ruin the original hitch?

Hey dude please make a short video on how to charge a fat scooter plz
@BasinBjorn5 жыл бұрын
What part of the charging? Do you mean what voltage for full/empty and storing it a longer time?
@mahyareal5 жыл бұрын
@@BasinBjorn Yeah kind of that but I actually want to buy one and there is no video that shows how to charge a fat scooter. I mean where can we charge it and something like that
@BasinBjorn5 жыл бұрын
It comes with a charger that you just plug in to your 110v / 220v outlet at home/ in your garage. Some of them have the battery removable so you can bring that home and leave the scooter outside.

Wow, that's awesome. Question, the metal stock your using is that 2 inch square tube mild steel, or are you using stainless? I have a ball hitch without the ball already(the bottom nut came loose while I was hauling my trailer couple years ago. I really want to do this, the cheaply made carriers that only hold two ebikes of 80lbs each max cost over $300.00, since I already own a stick welder and the ball hitch and most of the metal I'll be using I could probably make this with less than addition $50.00 or so. My Stealth Bomber ebike is made of steel, so it's well over 80lbs, so this should hold it nicely. Any plans you might have, or any suggestions, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for doing this video, just what I was looking for.
@BasinBjorn4 жыл бұрын
Hey Wayne, the steel is 40*40*1.5mm, just under 2" in size. That's what they had in the store. It's not stainless, just "regular" steel. The website listed it as Q195 steel, no idea what that means though. As long as your tow hitch can take the load then you should be able to build something strong enough for that Stealth Bomber.
@lemix694 жыл бұрын
@@BasinBjorn Thanks B, I really appreciate you getting back to me. I've already identified the steel I'm going to use, it's 2" x 2" x 0.12" thickness x 60" long, I figure about 3 ought to do it. It's considered mild steel the specs are: A500/A513 Hot Rolled Steel and like you, not really sure exactly what that means, but I believe it will be more than strong enough to do the job. I also have some plate steel to do the wheel holders, it's not going to be stainless with diamond pattern like yours, but I'm confident it'll work well. After watching your video a few times, I'm confident that I can do this. Thanks again for your video and your responsiveness maybe I'll do a video and post it, so that you can see my final outcome and maybe inspire someone else, that they too can do this.
@BasinBjorn4 жыл бұрын
Sounds good! The plates I used for the wheel holder was not stainless though, it was like a zinc coating on them. Lots of fumes when welding. I think they're called 'nailing plate'. So any steel plate, thick enough will work. Send me a link to the finished product if you post it on here.

@@BasinBjorn Actually I found on onlinemetals.com they call it skid plate and it is stainless and I got some coming, it's not going to arrive today though unfortunately, but I can get everything else done and I'll weld on the skid plate when it does arrive. 🖖😎
