Of all religions, only Islam guides mankind not only to the importance of time but also how to value it. Allah the Almighty and His Messenger, Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), very clearly tell us the value of time, why we must not waste it and how we can make use of our time wisely to increase our eeman (faith) and thus attain success, especially eternal success in the life Hereafter.
Both the Quran and the Sunnah enjoin Muslims to be conscious of time. We are reminded that life in this world is nothing but temporary. We never know when death has been appointed for us. We must value time for the satisfaction of Allah the Almighty. For our guidance and success, we must never waste time nor abuse it.
Eloquent, articulate and outspoken are some of the words that describe Dr. Abu Ameenah Bilal Philips. His quest to search for the truth led him from his birth island of Jamaica to the streets of Toronto where he grew up and accepted Islam in 1972. This journey has led him down many paths and he is known the world over as an Islamic scholar, Lecturer, Author and Thinker. Dr. Abu Ameenah completed his B.A. from the College of Islamic Disciplines (Usool ad-Deen) at the Islamic University of Madeenah in 1979, and thereafter went on to complete his Master's in Aqeedah at the University of Riyadh in 1985 and finally obtained his PhD from the University of Wales, U.K. in Islamic Theology in 1994. He has taught Islamic Education and Arabic in private schools, lectured M.Ed. students in the Islamic Studies department of various universities and has founded Islamic information centers while traveling extensively across the globe imparting Islamic knowledge as dictated by the Islamic tradition. Abu Ameenah enjoys playing squash at least three times a week with his wife and sons as a means of keeping fit and de-stressing and he also supervises his children in martial arts. It is interesting to note that in his earlier days, he acquired a black belt in Karate. His greatest achievement is the founding of Islamic Online University that has over 3000 students and authoring over 100 Islamic books of which, the fundamentals of Tawheed is his favourite. He currently resides in Doha, Qatar with his family where continues to teach at the Islamic Studies Academy.

@DifferentYetNormal Salamu Alaikum. I think Dr. Bilal is talking in general terms; you are simply a good exception masha Allah. Not all Muslim kids get "wiped out" by secular education, but generally speaking, environment plays a huge role in the development of character. Islam has always taught this and modern psychology and sociology backs it up as well. It's just best to try to have kids in Islamic environments, especially when they're very young as they're taught all kinds of crap.

I know one incident where the student was reading challenged, and the Islamic school could not single it out. And, by the time parents move the student to public school, it was too late too little. Another incident I know, the parents on purpose moved the student to a public school in CA, and the school identified the problem earlier in the life, and applied the solution. The student was able to lead a competitive life, and attended a reputable university.

Parents who send their children to public schools should keep an eye, monitor progress, and give the knowledge of Islam at home. It is important to focus on the content, not the label, public school, private school or Islamic school. It is the quality of education what mattes. It does not make sense to waste time of the student, and let him go through inadequate understanding & help the problem he or she is facing.

We plan to execute the agreed scope (..following your covenant and [my] promise to you as much..) with in the planned time & cost. So planning is to avoid wastage & good intention. We also plan to carry out the vision given to us by Allah & His rasool, to earn rewards & jannah from Allah, which is a mercy from the one who is eternal & does not benefit from rewarding us (Al Samad). We are the beneficiaries. It is Allah's mercy that he created Ashraf ul makhlooqat, and wants to give jannah.

I know parents sending their girls wearing hijab to public schools, and they outperform others. What is wrong about it? It is a good idea to face your competitors on the ground, instead of making your own world, specially when you are living in America.
