For the one with the larger circle facing forward, just remember that if you're going to hang something from it, really make sure your wire is super-hardened and that the loop is truly fully closed. Speaking from experience, I lost a pendant because it separated at the point where the circle "closes".

If you grip your wire flush, with the round nose pliers, you won’t need to snip anything off the loop because it’ll be perfectly even.

What type of metal (wirw) can I use so that would not become green in the ear, what are the best ones for staying in the ear for a longer time?

This is a great question. The metal turns your skin green because of the reaction of either your skin or something on your skin that reacts with the copper content in most cheaper wires. So how do you keep this from happening? There are a couple of ways. First, you can try only using precious metals like silver and gold. These seem to be the best result for people with skin allergies because they aren't mixed with the base metals that often cause this reaction. You can try coating your metal with something like and acrylic sealer or even a clear nail polish. It may help the jewelry last longer in the sense that it will take it longer to come in complete contact with the skin. Re-application will be necessary after prolonged wear. A word of caution, if you use these types of products keep in mind that they can and will be harmful to most natural gemstones. As always, it's important to clean your jewelry with mild soap and tepid water every now and then to help guard against dirt and grime that collects over time. Keeping a cleaning jewelry cloth handy is always a good idea! Hope this helps!

Hello! There are so many different colored and varieties of wire out there, it's so hard to know the right one to use. First of all, 20ga, which you already know is the best gauge. It's small enough to fit in your ear holes and sturdier than 22ga. It's less likely to lose it's shape. 18ga is going to be too big and way too malleable for simple ear wires. As far as the hardness, the para wire JTV sells is a sturdy, 20ga, non-tarnish wire and doesn't state a set hardness. It should be perfectly fine to use as that's what Susan and Ryan-Ashley use the most for these tutorials. If your worried about it, go for a half-hard genuine sterling silver wire. You will still need to hammer it some (as you will with the coated para wire) to get it a little more hard, but not as much as you would for a dead soft, which is very malleable. Also, .925 sterling silver (or any type of gold karat wire like 10K, 14K) is the choice for most people who might be worried about metal allergies. You'll have to pay a little more, but it could be worth it for peace of mind. The choice is really up to you! We hopes this helps! I can never find wire that isn’t super bendable for making ear hooks. I want something that will keep its shape. Any recommendations?

Susan usually uses 20ga German style wire (medium temper) for all her ear wires. They hold their shape pretty well! Also, you can "lightly" hammer them to help work harden the wire a bit. But you only want to hammer "lightly," so it doesn't flatten the wire. If it flattens, it won't fit through your ear piercing.

Okay so I'm considering to begin jewelry making but if there's one thing that from the get-go I don't like is having a flush cut that goes into my ear because I did have some earrings that I purchased like that once ( I guess someone had made them for sale ) and they didn't have like that " little tip " or "needle like point" that would go easier into your ear., so...., my question is how to make something that is professional with the little needle tip ? 🙏

Hello! Really the best way to avoid that jagged edge is to file, file, file! A wire rounder works great and makes the tip of the wire so much more smooth.

Hi Dawn! It's really up to how you want your design to look! The chasing (or a metal) hammer will add texture and also harden the wire, whereas the nylon/rubber or rawhide will mostly just harden your wire, leaving little to no marring.

You should be bending the wire 90 degree angle then make a loop when you’re making a loop at the beginning. That’s why you are having to bend and fix a shape as you’re missing a step. Also, when you’re making a loop you should be holding a wire with a round nose plier with no tip of wire sticking out. That’s why you’re having to cut as that’s an excess portion. Then as some are saying, you’re missing another step of filing the rough tips after snipping so that your holes of your ears won’t get scratched when you’re inserting these tips against fragile skin. Not the greatest tutorial out there.
