Thanks for showing how this works. I have this machine and have used it since about 1958 but never used that foot to make the flat feld seams.

Wow! Great video. Someone gave me this machine. I restored it but I haven't sewn with it yet. PLEASE do more videos. This was perfection! I mostly sew with my vintage singers. BUT I have a 117 and a Record 830 I want to get going on b/c the Singers don't have zig zag.

I am so happy to have found you! I am the proud owner of a KL117 that I got yesterday. It has a new motor on it but otherwise it is a mid 1940's machine. I can not figure out how to wind thread on the bobbin. I do not know where the handwheel releasing nut is. If i hold the handwheel and turn the large middle disc all the way to the right, it comes off and the handwheel is still engaged. Do you have any video's on bobbin winding?? thank you!!

Jay Haybert. I found a manual for my machine on line and think the mechanism is the same. You might try googling "Manual for Bernina 117 K" and see if it helps.

Hi Jan, where did you get your 117? I have been searching for the 117k. Can you recommend someone selling 117k?

I just got this same machine, in the original case! (the side near the needle has a pannel that flips down to access the bobbin) I was wondering, where did you get your knee lift lever? is the one made by bernina currently compatible or do I need to see about finding someone to make one? any info you could give me would be great because I really enjoy the convenience of the knee lever

Looks beautiful!! How does this work with a traditional 5/8" seam allowance?

I was thinking the same thing. I've always made a flat felled seam by sewing the traditional 5/8" seam, trimming half of the portion that will be the inside portion, turning, and top stitching the larger portion. It's actually easy to do without the special foot but, I could always appreciate short cuts if they work. Maybe for production work it would cut down on work. edit: I have had a 117K since 1958. I've sewn my clothes and, my kids clothes on it and, have a lot of other feet. All I've ever used was the zipper foot, and occassionally the rolled hem foot. I think there are 3 of those. Most I don't know what they do, but I do have the foot you're showing. I have lots of those metal bobbins too. Thanks for posting.

Nice Video, well explained and filmed! Thank You! But I see You are not 100% familiar with this maschine - otherwise You'd instinctively use the knee-Lever (at 2:36) to lower the sewing foot... When the foot is rested (manually) in it's upper position, You'll probably need a bit more push-force on the knee-lever, so the smaller lever on the maschines backside can fall out it's resting position. I yust love the KL-117. Imo the best non-industrial sewing maschine ever made.

Agreed - I think this is the best non-industrial machine ever made! It is a joy to sew on. I had the knee lever custom-made for it by a fellow collector-technician. I do instinctively use it, but because it was not seated into the table, the machine was sliding when I tried to use it.
