In affinity photo there is an adjustment layer called soft proofing. You can select the correct ICC printer profile and put it as the top layer. This will give you the best indication of how the colours and tones will work out in print. The main thing you need to be careful with is not doing the darks to dark, as the darks don’t seem to show as well in the soft proofing. I find this is a great way of getting your on screen colours closer to your print colours. The other thing to be mindful of is having a calibrated screen. I can’t afford it, so I have my MAC display settings to setting best for graphic design/ print. I like to use Ilford Smooth cotton Rag (or Texture equivalent). Their paper is naturally white, no optical brightners. I am unable to get the paper you use in Australia.Another paper I like is the Canson Fine Art Paper, a little more expensive, but incredibly good with printing colours

Thank you for this info. I have an Epson 8550 printer and so far I really like it. I haven’t tried the soft proofing with Affinty photo but, I will now. I’m not well versed in profiles for paper/printer. I use a bright white paper with a slight linen effect so don’t know how to find the profile for that. I will check the soft proofing for sure to see what turns up. The only thing with this printer for me is it prints darker than my screen. Any ideas are welcomed. Cheers

Hi Shannon. I use icc profile for my hahnemuehle photo rag bright white paper. Print comes out perfect every time. I use ‘velvet fine art’ as media type, and colour settings ‘off’ I recommend using velvet fine art paper setting for your Epson cotton paper. Make sure colour settings are turned off. Mark

Hiya, you might want to get yourself a scoreboard, I find that instead of using the bone folder, try to use a Ball Stylus Tool, with the scoreboard, as it makes it so much faster and easier.

I was just about to buy one when I found a scoring guillotine on Amazon and bought that instead, it’s brilliant! 😍 I should have invested in either of them sooner the bone tool was hard work 🤣 it’s such a pain isn’t it, mines been playing up so much this week 🤦🏼‍♀️ thank you so much 🤍

From a tech perspective this was very interesting. Top marks for your IT skills. Printing is *always* a nightmare to get right, which I guess is why people pay to get someone else to do it. And now.. I'm thinking about Christmas 🤣

Thank you so much Chris! IT isn't my forte but through watching videos and a bit of trial and error I always manage to figure it out eventually 😆 For definite, you have to have the patience of a saint to deal with printing! It's not for everyone 😂

Hi Shannon! Would you please share where you buy the Tintoretto gesso paper? I do my own prints at home and have been expanding into greeting cards and would love to use that paper, it looks lovely. Thank you! Also, is that the same paper you use for making your regular prints?

It's from a website called wow vow! I've been experimenting and I'm currently using the Epson fine art natural textured paper for prints, but you can probably just use the Tintoretto gesso ☺️
