Oh man, I had this wonderful friend named Rex, he grew up in Arkansas and he cooked like a grandma, with love and everything he made was BANGING. He was diabetic, he had a lot of problems with digestion and whatnot and it made him hyper focused on food he couldn’t eat and he exorcised the demons of deliciousness by cooking for others. He stayed with me when he was in Ohio and he made three damn meals plus dessert every single day. He was here for five weeks dealing with family issues and I gained 25 pounds. Anyhow, he died, unexpectedly and not only does my heart break a bit every day as I go through life and think of this person who took up a lot of real estate, I can’t think of a friend pickle without weeping. I’m weeping at this video?!? I miss Rex, he was a genuine southern gentleman with the cooking chops of a southern Grammy. He did the spears, I’d get home from work and he and my partner would be in the kitchen laughing and playing with the dogs, and without fail there would be a few fried pickle spears just waiting for me with a side of ranch. He knew I was trying to not be a pig so he would make 1-3 and the effort was immense. Just to have that little dish with a paper towel under so I could walk in and have a snack made with love. Goddamn this is grief, you never know what’s gonna get ya but it will be creeping up in the weirdest places. I never got his recipe. Milk, eggs, flour…seasoning and no matter what or who nothing will be like those. Rest In Peace Rex Allan Bales. You were the BEST. 🙏🏻💔🙏🏻

Hi Britney my name is Alex and I also have an eating disorder. I am currently trying to recover from anorexia. I know that’s different from binge eating disorder but the struggle and the pain is the same. I’m not a professional at all I’m literally 16 haha but I went to a residential home with a lot of professions and saw a few binge eaters get admitted. Something that helped all of us with food was eating 3 meals and 3 snacks. For the anorexics (they usually underweight) it helped them gain weight pretty quickly! And for the binge eaters, it helped them with their cravings and helped them be mindful of their hunger and normalize their hunger cues! I wish you the best in your recover/therapy and I love that you are having so much fun with food and cooking it on ur own! That’s a big step! 💖love you girl you are beautiful and have a beautiful soul!

Some tips in case anyone ever wants to try this; I loooove fried pickles and make them in my air fryer all the time. First thing, I don't preheat it. I lay all the pickles out after they are dipped and then I start the machine. That way they cook at the same time and you don't burn yourself. Try adding some pickle juice to the egg, it gives it a stronger flavor. Also, the dipping process is always messy for me, but it helps if you have a "dry" hand and a "wet" hand. So, with one hand, you put in flour and drop in the egg. With the other hand, you retrieve it from the egg and drop in the bread crumbs. Then, with the original hand, cover the pickles and bread crumbs and take out. (Or double layer the bread crumbs, like Brittany did)
