Can we make an old breast plate and have something that stops today's baddest rounds. Using prior testing and modern materials we take a stab at making Modern Medieval Armor to withstand rifle rounds. Is it possible?

Congratulations on the DIY RF3 plate! I like that it was able to stop the M2AP after taking the 5.56 and 7.62. You're the only one I've seen both disappointed and excited to not have pierced the armor, lol.

It's honestly impressive how far this channel has come from such humble beginnings. Good job and presentation.

Hi, great video. Wrapping ceramic with epoxy carbon fiber will perform better compared to aramid/fiberglass because of its very low elongation at break
@3RBallisticsАй бұрын
@@eziciyokedici214 I’d love to give it a try. I have a few tests of porcelain wrapped in aramid but none with carbon fiber.

Echoing the other comments, I always enjoy build videos. Did you source from Alibaba? Especially for alumina, most domestic sources are insanely expensive.
@3RBallisticsАй бұрын
@@kungfugirevik657 the alumina is actually very available in the states. I found this from a grain supply company. It seems many silo and grain facilities use alumina tile for its abrasion resistance. It isn’t as pure as ballistic alumina but it works much better than porcelain tile.

15:40 incorperating lvl 3a in diy armor seems to never come up even though its actually affordable, The Wound Channel on internet archive video #53 "Homemade Body Armor vs 5.56 and 7.62" is the only other example i've seen putting tile and sheet metal in front of 3a armor. Unfortunate that channel was executed for being gun friendly

Very cool. How would you mitigate back face deformation on builds like these?
@3RBallisticsАй бұрын
@@genericyoutubename6090 on builds like these I would have probably just pressed the composite material. That way I am not adding additional weight. If weight wasn’t an issue I might actually add a few layers of fiberglass behind the composite material.

Lol, testing the first plates backer design in my next project basically, with the addition of carbon fiber. Supposedly the UD aramid does better with backface compared to the PE, do you feel it helped any? Also, where did you source the UD aramid?
@3RBallisticsАй бұрын
@@Armor-Innovations that’s going to be a great test, cannot wait to see the results. Unfortunately, most of the work was done on the strike face on these builds so I am not entirely sure of the UD Kevlar effectiveness. At some point it should be tested against normal Kevlar 29 or such to see if it is better. I purchased these UD Kevlar from skarrarmor on eBay.

nice performance! would it be possible to do an alternative version where the ceramic is replaced by a quarter inch of ar500 steel (but same composite backer) to see the difference against the AP rounds?
@3RBallisticsАй бұрын
@@gamecubekingdevon3 sure. The plate might weight a few more pounds but I have the AR500 in my shop. Should be fairly straightforward to make.

@@3RBallistics nice! as i m very curious to see how the IIIA UHMWPE backer + quarter inch hardened steel SF would fair
