Great Big Story

Great Big Story

7 жыл бұрын

While living near a women’s shelter in Detroit, Michigan, Amy Peterson felt moved to do something to help her neighbors. Her inspiration turned into Rebel Nell, a social enterprise dedicated to employing, educating and empowering women transitioning out of homeless shelter living. The organization hires women to work as designers, creating jewelry from locally fallen Detroit graffiti. For the women, it’s a chance to believe in themselves again as they give new life to a discarded piece of their own city.

To all the people asking why she only helps women... what's wrong with that? There are groups that only cater to guys, groups that are specialised to help ex-gang members, groups for the homeless, prison rehabilitation groups, groups for inner city kids. Very few of these charities help the entire demographic of vulnerable people. There are too many different people in need, so I don't see the issue with her choosing to help homeless women, just like other groups choose to help certain groups of people. Each of these groups helps better society in some way and they all help people in need and I'm okay with that. I think what she does is great. People need to stop looking for reasons to be triggered and destroy something that's really uplifting.

This is a really nice concept and a good way to contribute to a cause in need. The pieces are very pretty, unique and representative of something special about Detroit.

Funny how someone can give a hug to someone else and people ask...but why didn't you hug everyone? Lol. If you are going to live vicariously through people, you don't get to choose what those people do.
