This is wonderful. My girlfriend loves sea glass and we always collect it on the beach. Her birthday's coming up, and I now know what I'm going to make for her. Thanks man!

Be careful Lisa, this is a very addictive hobby and there can be days where you will find yourself on the beach and all of a sudden the sun's going down and you'll wonder where the heck time went! Seriously, hunting for beach glass is a little like fishing; some days are good, most are ok, sometimes you get nothing, but like that hole in one in golf, all it takes is one great day and you're hooked!

I'm on vacation in Malta and just found a spot with so much sea glass I couldn't believe it. Never worked with it but I sure will now. I would love to drill it but have no idea how. Your video gave me great ideas what to do. Now I wish I had brought wire and pliers. I almost wish I could go back to cold and snowy Germany :D

That is wonderful that you teach this! I have only found about 5 pieces so far, golden brown and green. I live in Florida and its been hard to find around here, went to 3 beaches and only found 5 and a couple tiny pieces, and one beach where I didn't find any someone on the Sea Glass Odyssey website had said she had found a lot, I guess it depends. This is all new to me, just started but feel like I am obsessed already! I could always order some online but its fun looking for it.

You are welcome Jody! If you want to continue or do more come see us at Crystal Cove State Park in Southern California where I teach free classes in the park every Wednesday from about 10am to 3 pm. If you can't make it to So Cal, try our "Fun with Sea Glass" DVD that's available at Amazon.com . Have fun, and you can use this same method for shells, rocks, pottery and more!

Thanks for writing, and, you are so welcome! There are actually so many ways to wrap but we developed this one for all my "KIDS" (from ages 2 to 95) I get to work with at Crystal Cove State Park (Newport Beach CA) where I teach every Wednesday from 10am to 4 pm. Out of the thousands of kids that have participated (I'll have 40 to 200 kids a day even in winter), everyone has gone away loving their own work! Have fun and share it!

In this video you'll see at 56 seconds into it we use the 24 gauge wire. This is what we prefer for most applications and have found most people find it both easy to work with and strong enough for most pieces whether they be necklaces or medium to larger earrings. I generally save the 22 and 20 gauge for larger and heavier pieces.

Hi! Would my pendant be sturdy enough if I wrapped the sea glass just once, rather than with both ends of the wire, to make a simpler wrap? Or is there another technique that makes a simpler wrap around the sea glass? Thank you! This video was really easy to follow and well done (:

Hi again! I drove 2 hours last weekend, found about 25 pieces of mostly brown and 4 green, the most I have ever found! but not all is frosted or tumbled well. Anyway, my question is, I got my craft wire at the craft stores but I am afraid it will tarnish, I don't mind if it does for my jewelry but I would like to give some as gifts, do you know if craft wire is known to tarnish? I got one called German wire but I didn't know to look on the package about tarnishing and threw it away. Thanks!

I found that out, I am addicted already! I live in Central Florida and went to beaches an hour and a half away, but I might have to drive further because so far I have only found the 5 pieces of medium size and 2 tiny ones, but then again like you said one day could be good and one day bad. I wanted to ask you about the wire, I bought 22 I think it was and I had trouble manipulating it, so I went with the 24 next time and it is easier for me to work with, is it ok to use the softer wire?

So, what is good material for wire? Something that is affordable, won't change color and won't make the skin black?

I agree with John; the "music" is unecessary and distracting.

Cute but you should have tightened up the wires in the back so they hold better and are smoother against the glass.

Skip the music, it is unnecessary. I would have liked to see you o fewer wraps on top since they bunched up. I think would hav e looked better if you had used those two ends and made a decorative swirl,
@rickndianacom
@rickndianacom 5 жыл бұрын
I work with kids as young as 2, and I also work with the blind. The wraps at the top are for safety reasons, for they allow one to tuck the sharp wire into the swirls. The 24 gauge wire used here isn't stiff enough to hold a decretive swirl and the lose end would end up catching on something. Sorry, "the music' was my 8 year old nephew's improv.

@meh it's not even gold filled and we don't use it anymore cause we don't know what metals are in new imported stuff. What we do is for crafting purposes only and because we are at the beach many years ago we switched to surgical steal wire and findings only.
