Very nice effect, thank you. Just one remark. Since each adjustment layer has its own mask, you don't need to add one. After setting the value for an adjustment invert the adjustment layer (cmd-I) and use a white paintbrush to draw back in the effect, This should work in the same way without additional mask layers.

Ah, there is a reason for adding separate masks. Affinity allows me to combine multiple masks and mask a mask with another. That’s why I do it even though I didn’t use the technique in the video. it’s a habit I’ve picked up to ensure flexibility.

Again a great concise, clear video with amazing creative resources. Just a question, related to go and back to Develop Persona: knowing the flexibility of raw file, nevertheless, do not you think that working global EXPOSURE and WB in Photo Persona instead DEVELOP persona is worth, just for a no professional photographer in terms of quality file? Many thanks in advance.

Thanks. It took a bit of experimentation to come up with this process. I found that when I used just the Develop Persona or just the Photo Persona the results didn't look convincing. I then found myself applying more complex edits to fix those problems. Try it by all means but the process I showed is the one that gave me the best results with the images I tried.

Hello Robin.I see your using Affinity version two.But I'm still using version one. Will this still work in version one ?.(I don't actually use Affinity a lot.Although I use my cameras a fair bit I don't want to sit for hours in front of my computer so generally do quick edits)

Yes, it will work with version 1 as well. Most things will. Version 2 had some great new and useful features but version 1 is still excellent software.

Do you find the gradients are better for this type of effect than using Photo's lighting Live filter (particularly with the same image as a bump map)? Thanks.

I tried the live filter approach but found the method in the video worked better for me.

Very interesting and informative ! But as I am not yet familiar with Affinity Photo, your explanations are a bit too quick for me ; moreover, I am not a native english spoker. Thanks all the same !

Why not slow the video down in the KZbin player and turn on the Closed Captions. The caption subtitles are in renglish but you may be able to follow it better by setting the play speed to 50% and turning off the sound.
