Thanks for your comment. I actually used this felt/velour type fabric from the craft section at the dollar store for her body! It has a velvety front and smooth back, and was so affordable. Don’t be afraid of the hand sewing. As you can see from my video, most of it is made on the machine, and only a bit is hand sewing. The right tools and a Slow approach, and you will have a win!

Thanks so mich for watching. For Luna, I actually used craft fabric from the dollar store. It is a grey velour like fabric with a smooth back. If your dollar store does not have options, the fabric stores have coating fabrics back in stock. If you can find a lightweight coat fabric in the colour you want for a doll. That will work really well too.

I have made several in different colours in felt but hand stitched them all and not yet brave enough to make the clothes but i will i made 7 in total and family members could not resist 😊

Would a fat quarter size of fabric be big enough for the dresses? And how much felt did you need to make her? Would brushed cotton be okay to make the body? Sorry for the questions, I'm wanting to get everything I need so I can make her as soon as my book arrives :)

A fat quarter is more than enough for Luna's basic sundress. It is also plenty enough for making Luna. I took out a fat quarter and laid out the Luna pieces....and aside from the print fabrics you would cut out for the inner ear and foot bottoms, you would definitely have enough fabric with a fat quarter to make Luna. A brushed cotton might add a great animal feel to the project. I would go for it. I made Luna with this velour-like stuff I picked up in the craft section at my local dollar store. ha ha. I am making Freddy next and I got 3'x3' sheets of felt at my local dollar store that feel like a thick enough loft that it should work. You can make Luna and the friends out of any fabric that does not stretch (wovens with no lycra). I might try one with a terry cloth towel, just to see if it gives an animal feel. Don't forget to pick up some upholstry needles so you have the big long needle to sew the eyes, and pick up some upholstry thread too. When I attached Luna's eyes and head etc, I used the upholstry thread because its just so strong. A nd you will need a thimble for sure. Good luck with the sewing. @@cassiesews Thank you so much for all of your help! I have two nieces I want to make these for. I also have a little pattern for a very basic bear I want to make out of towels and washable stuffing so they can have "bath time bears" as they hate the bath haha. I will definitely pick up what you suggested! I'm in the UK and don't have dollar tree, my local equivalent doesn't have much in the way of craft stuff either so will be having to get stuff online or reusing what I have (old pillowcases etc)

For sure and don’t forget thrift stores. Old linens and sometimes clothing has just the right fabric for a nice price. We can all go to the local fabric store for sure, but it’s a fun challenge to reuse fabrics for a new project. Thanks for sharing and best of luck.

Hi! The book reccomends felt for the animals (I'm opting for that as a beginner) since there is no grain in felt like there is with cotton or a woven fabric, you can fit the pattern pieces closer together on felt since you don't have to worry about the direction the pieces are facing and it's fairly thick so the animal won't be floppy:)

HI Cassie. I love that we share the same name! Sorry for the late reply, I have been sick a few days and missed checking in here. I seem to have caught the latest strain of what is going around. Thank you for your watch time and your query. :-) The dress Luna is wearing acutally is the sundress pattern in the book. I think the fabric I used is slightly thicker than what Luna is wearing for the cover photoshoot for the book, so perhaps it settles differently. My fabric of choice for the dress was... wait for it.. LOL... Dollar store pillow case fabric. You read that right. ha ha. At our local dollar store you can get 2 packs of pillow cases for $4.00 Canadian. It is a super affordable way to get fabric if you need or want it, with a decent volume too. All the smooth cotton ones are 60% cotton 40% polyester, so not 100% cotton, but fine all the same. I used the cotton blend fabric in the soft mauve colour, then I added the cotton lace trim underneath. I decided to use the fancy stiches on my machine to stich the floral embroidered hem that you see. So the secret is to make the dress with cheap dollar store fabric. LOL! Enjoy and Happy Sewing.

The patterns are all available in the back of the book. I do this old school style and I literally trace the patterns onto paper and cut them out.
