Everyone loves it and you don't need any special equipment. This video is a quick breakdown of how to make maple syrup at home. Even just a turkey fryer will make you some amazing homemade backyard maple syrup. And many folks would love to make their own with the maple trees that grow in their backyard. Here is every single step from tapping trees to bottling in one short video on how to make your own maple syrup. It's really not complicated at all. You tap your maple trees. You collect your maple sap. You boil your maple sap down into nearup. You take your nearup inside to finish it up into your own homemade maple syrup. You bottle your maple syrup so it is shelf stable. We cover it all in this video.

I don't do anything special. As pieces flake off, they are scooped out of the tray with a little steel strainer that we use when we are boiling. I've wondered if a pressure washer might remove the stuff if the trays are left sitting outside in the sun in the summer to dry the caramelized sugar off of them.

Does it get thicker at it sits or does it stay liquidated like a water type state
@Wilderstead
@Wilderstead Жыл бұрын
I’m not sure what you’re asking. It’s maple syrup, so yes, it stays a liquid unless you process it further and turn it into granulated sugar.

When you are doing the evaporating, can you heat it TOO hot? I am a little unsure at the temperature to keep this at. FYI: My boiling point here in Idaho is 203F.
@Wilderstead
@Wilderstead Жыл бұрын
Rolling boil. Roughly 7 degrees F over your water boiling point is a baseline to use for maple syrup. Boiling further will turn it into granulated sugar. We have a video on making the sugar as well.

We don’t have the same maple trees that you have in Canada, but in my area there’s the acer pseudoplatanus, that is in the same family as sugar maple, I’ve read on an American site that is possible to make syrup from every maple three. Do you confirm? Does anybody has some experience in this?
@Wilderstead
@Wilderstead Жыл бұрын
Yes, you can make syrup from your trees. The ratio of sap to syrup will be much higher, though. And keep in mind that you need temps below and above zero Celsius for extended periods of time in order for the trees to push sap up from the roots in the spring time.

I have already bought plastic taps how should I clean them?
@Wilderstead
@Wilderstead 2 жыл бұрын
Hot water and a small scrub brush. The stainless ones are much easier to clean and less likely to pass on bacteria to the tree.

So you mention the filters can be reused. Where they are paper, how do you do this without destroying them? This will be my second year doing syrup but last year I used cheescloth and it got most nitre out but not all.
@Wilderstead
@Wilderstead 3 жыл бұрын
After you’ve filtered your hot syrup, put the paper filters into a pot of hot water to soak for a minute or two. Then rinse them inside and out under hot water from the tap. Air dry and store them for later. They are cooking oil filters, so they’re a little more durable than say coffee filters.

The only thing left out is how long to boil at each step!!?!?!
@Wilderstead
@Wilderstead 3 жыл бұрын
That will depend on how much sap you are boiling, so it's a little different for everyone. The final temperature is what really counts. If you are boiling and using fahrenheit to measure temp, you'll want to go 7 degrees f above the boiling point of water on a given day. Celcius, go 5 degrees C above the boiling point of water on a given day. The temperature of boiling water can vary based on a number of environmental factors.
