The file had ridges on it and you sanded them off, why? I think they would have added additional grip for the wood handle pieces. Otherwise good repurposing of the broken file.

Very nice build! I think I will try my own. Thanks for letting us know how you softened the steel. Another related question, how did you know how to cool the steel when re-hardening it? So far as I understand you have to know if you are working with an oil or water hardened metal. How did you figure this out? Thanks so much! :)

Yes i heated the rasp and let it cool slowly Actually i recorded the annealing process but somehow i lost that record

Just use a sharpened nail. Works well. Make time one minute.
