Making Mini Photo Easels

Great little project Kenny, as you say sometimes is good to make something fun. I can see a half day in the workshop, making some of these, coming up. Really enjoying catching up on the videos on your channel. I enjoy your style especially the step by step approach which for me is really confidence building. Please keep them coming ! Ken, wow, neat project and great use of scrap. Gotta build a few of those. I was wondering where in the heck you get such fantastic dowels then I remembered you make your own. The light dowels against the walnut sure are a nice contrast. Thanks for sharing.

The smallest dowels that I make are 3/16" in diameter Paul. I find that anything less than that causes too much chatter in the wood and they end up being misshapen and incorrectly sized. I purchase these at Lee Valley and they are fairly inexpensive and last quite a long time as you don't use them very often and when you do, they are usually smaller pieces. Your video is well done!. You have very nice tools. Consider using waxed paper to keep surfaces from being glued. The squeeze-out problem is minimized. Also, think about using bamboo skewers as a dowel replacement. By tapering your dowel or skewer just a shade for a pressure fit, you can avoid gluing altogether and get the same "peg" look. Much cheaper. This is a great easel for a cell phone either horizontal or vertical. Friends who see it will want one and its nice to send people home with something useful and attractive such as your easel. Thank you for sharing!

Great and useful project Ken. I can see this easel being used as a phone or with adjustments a tablet holder as well .

Thanks for the kind words Richard. If being used for a tablet or phone, I would suggest a safety on the centre post to keep it from opening all the way up and flattening to the table. Thanks for tuning in.

what is the name of the manual mini saw ?

I'm not sure which saw you are referring to Ardi. I did use a flush cut saw to trim the dowels in this project but other than that, it was mostly table saw and sander work. Do you have a time in the show where I used this saw? Thanks for tuning in.

LOL. You're a funny guy Dale. This was a fun project and there's always more ways than one to accomplish a task in woodworking. A hinge isn't always needed. LOL. As for the photo....Yup, that was me and Mrs Earrings somewhere around 28 years ago. She's stood by my side for over 30 years now and I wouldn't have it any other way. I agree whole heartedly. Unfortunately, I didn't notice until the editing process when the project was completed. It was a little late by then. I only wish that I would have noticed earlier. Gave me a good laugh though. Thanks for tuning in.
