Personally, I feel like one of the most uncomfortable situations for a woman/girl to be approached or talked to by a creepy man or stranger who is a man. I don’t understand why people are hating on Colleen for talking about her feelings, because so many people are on her side and so many people are going through things like what she’s talking about but can’t speak out because of fear of what would happen. She’s addressing a situation that is real and needs to be talked about. And she NEVER said that all mean are bad. She was talking about something that takes gut to talk about. 👏 Colleen

Something one of my therapists told me a long time ago was "you don't have to do anything. If you tell yourself you should do something, you have to do something, and you don't meet that expectation, you're should-ing all over yourself" or something along those lines. I think from your perspective, you (not unlike myself) are setting up these amazing and exciting ends to tasks that are eating up your thoughts and energy, and therefore end up leaving you feeling completely empty and worthless when you're unable to complete some or all of them. It's such a dreadful feeling of guilt. I have high expectations for myself too. But I've learned over the years that I can still have high expectations, but I don't have to maintain an unreasonable timeline. Colleen, I totally get what you're saying about wanting to spend the rest of the week with hanging out with your boy and your family, but I hope you may be able to see it from a different perspective. How I see it is you did all these amazing starts to your tasks, and you did do a lot, but it didn't get done in your set timeline. But you still have today, tomorrow, Wednesday, and even Thursday. Christmas day is Friday, so you still have all these other days to do the things! All is not lost, and this is your job, your timeline, you can set your schedule (I know it's for the new years eve show, but still). it doesn't have to be a sad and depressing end to your night. Try and see it as another opportunity to get it done, opposed to a lost opportunity to complete it. I once lost my freaking mind because I set up this physical endurance test 3 days after I had laser eye correction surgery. How did I think that I could try and compete in an obstacle course and running event literal days after surgery in both eyes?? I wasn't supposed to be getting sweat or especially objects in the eye for at least 2 weeks (no one plans objects in the eye, but you get the picture). I was so frustrated with myself and was crying to my mom that I couldn't do everything. She had to tell me that I'm not supposed to and that I'm the only one who had this expectation for me. There will be other events. And guess what? There were! And my eyes healed fine. But "should-ing" all over yourself by saying "I should be done this at this time, or I won't ever get it done" isn't true and it almost can become a self fulfilling prophecy. I would recommend trying, just for a few days maybe, not setting any expectations. No timelines, just a list. Don't say you'll get it done tonight, tomorrow. Maybe see if that helps alleviate the stress of unfulfillment. I love checking stuff off my list too, but I have quite a few lists that don't have an exact timeframe anymore because I couldn't mentally handle it all. It became much easier when I could just see it, prioritize it in my head, and just do it at my own pace. I still have long term goals, but the short term ones shouldn't be the ones that stumble you and trip you. Colleen you are so capable, so determined, so caring, it's not a bad thing to feel so many feelings, it means you care about what you do. I hope this helped, I've only commented once before, I never comment. So I maybe have a lot to say :) love you girl! You got this :)

Roughly around the time this vlog came out, my therapist told me she tries to replace "should/have to/need to" with "I want to." It takes away the shame and can actually help you be more or just as productive because you realize these are things you want to do, but there's nothing you have to feel bad about if you don't do them.

As someone who also has ADHD, and anxiety, the one thing that changed my entire life was writing a list of what can be done later, what needs to be done this week and what needs to be done today. I also had to let myself know that I don't need to expect to finish anything today, unless it has to be done, that I can just start things and if I need to move on because I just can't, and I mean CAN'T continue work through the entire thing, then work on something else and come back to it, because yah can. Give yourself space to be someone who has ADHD, because our minds won't work the way it is expected to by others standards, so others can just take those expectations and get lost.

I hope she reads this because it is so true! We are all wired differently and should try to work with what we have instead of feeling pressured to fit into some mold or idea of what "productive" feels or looks like. I deal with guilt every day because of this. I have to constantly remind myself I am doing the best I can with the brain I have 🙃

When Colleen was talking about her wanting to do work, I related so much. Sometimes I wake up in the morning and feel motivated, and want to get everything done, but I can't finish anything. It feels like doing everything but nothing. What I do is set a goal for how much work I want to get done on one thing, and then I move onto the next. Of course it takes a couple of days, but it really helps if you want to get half of your work done on one thing, and do half of the next thing. Then, the next day, you can do the other half. It really gets me in the mindset of, "oh I only need to half of this today and half of this today. It also makes me look out for myself for the next day. The first day you do it you need to think of yourself the next day, and you want to destress your future self. By doing half of the work the first day, you get all of the relief the second day. So I think that would really help to get work done.

Colleen I adore you so much. I've been watching your videos for maybe 6-7 years now. It hurts me to know how much value you're putting on your own productivity and how much you beat yourself up over expectations that not only are unrealistic but also based in completely arbitrary standards for labor production. We live in a system that tells us our value as humans is tied to what we can accomplish that we could get paid for, but it's so far from the truth. I beg for you to allow yourself to know that every second you spend loving your family, making yourself feel good is such a better and more truthful evaluation of your worth than the amount you get done. ALSO getting bits done of a bunch of tasks is just as valuable as finishing one whole task! The act of completion doesn't inherently mean anything especially when so many of those "done" moments are just one step in a bigger process! So take the small points in the small processes as completions too!! Okay I love you byee
@joyenchanted133 жыл бұрын
ADHD brains rely on dopamine to get anything done. I wouldn’t set out on “finishing” anything, cut each task down into smaller parts. So for instance, you need to write a song. Immediately your brain is thinking up everything you need to do, melodies, production, lyrics, etc. And that is daunting, it’s like a great big obstacle you can’t get past, it can be so frustrating wanting to do something but your brain isn’t board, It’s a lot of work. So instead, cut it down to writing a verse, or decide on a chord progression for a song. Reward yourself once you’ve finished that smaller task, and allow yourself to be done with it for that day. But maybe, finishing that part of the task and accomplishing it will motivate you to continue with that task and do more, that’s great, but it’s okay if that doesn’t work too. I strongly recommend HowToADHD’s channel, especially if you’re unmedicated, lots of little life hacks for getting things done and accommodating tasks to your brain so that it’s easier to deal with. Sending you love, you’re not a failure by any means, you are not lazy (I mean look, you tried to finish so many tasks today, you’re motivated and dedicated, you are putting the work in) Your list just needs to be broken down, you’ve got a whole lot of tasks there and immediately our brains go to everything that needs to be done in order for it to be finished. I’ll say it again, bc I know it’s been a saviour for so many people with and suspected ADHD, have a look on HowToADHD, their channel gives such great advice 💜

Also, it’s incredibly relatable and by no means annoying. I know the feeling well. And as a fellow BFRBer, you are most defientely not sitting alone in your feelings. Hey Colleen! I totallyyyyy understand the endless task list. I am a full time grad student, full time social worker, part time doula, and I own a full time photography business - yes, all of that is true and WHOLLY overwhelming. I've been learning hard lessons in boundaries and making time for what's important for me. Yes, creating realistic "smaller bite" goals is one way to help you reward yourself with checking off to-do items (ex: writing the hook and 2 verses of a song instead of a whole song), but also, writing down absolutely everything you have going on to visualize how full your plate is and making some tough calls about where to delegate or cut agenda items off is helpful, too. My supervisor has said to me "work will always be here. Your family will not. You are irreplaceable to your family." Like you, family is everyyyything for me. And so, learning boundaries and wrapping up certain parts of my life are things I am EXCITED for, because I feel relief that I will breathe again. That I can enjoy time with my family again. That I can be ME again. I hope you read this. We're all here for you and we don't want you to overwork yourself on our behalf. I'm so passionate about this... its all too common that we exhaust ourselves with the hustle and don't have anything left to give those we love, or give our loved ones our 2nd best. Sending you all the love and hugs. If you ever want a relateable friend in NY (who's not some creepy, high energy fan) I'm here 🥰❤

I know what you mean when you talk about starting tasks and getting stuck and starting new ones. My trick to deal with that is to choose like three tasks and rotate them. So when I feel stuck with the first, I jump over to one of the other two. When I get stuck again, I jump back to the first. Believe it or not, but I actually feel that that loosens the brain knots, your brain does get a break from the issue and can work on it subconsciously while you focus on other tasks. Hope this helps!

Colleen, starting a project is the hardest part so now you’ve built a foundation to build off of as you go forward with those projects! You did yourself a little favour. It’s still frustrating but you did accomplish something today!

I love hearing you talk about how your feeling, because it reminds me that it’s okay, and really good, to openly express how I’m feeling and to not hold things inside. You’re wonderful Colleen, and I feel absolutely blessed that you’re here on this earth, sharing your life with us 💙

Not only didn’t you say “all men are bad,” you went out of your way to stress how much that was not the case. 🤦🏻♀️ Whoever this was just contributed to the stereotype that men don’t listen. 🤣

I know that feeling. Like you have so many things to do but you end up not accomplishing anything. Try to break down your tasks into smaller tasks. That way the work becomes simple. And completing small tasks makes you feel like you've accomplished something, and that creates a ripple effect, you'll feel good and you'll get to do more.

I can totally relate to setting unreachable goals everyday and it’s totally normal to feel frustrated and you really aren’t alone! ADHD can feel overwhelming constantly and we also tend to be more emotional people but there are so many communities out there who wanna help and there are also books I would recommend getting the female guide to ADHD its super helpful and also goes into how anxiety can come from your ADHD. I hope you feel better and totally don’t worry if you want to put content on hold so you can spend time with family 💗

It really helps to have a mindset shift of even though I didn’t accomplish everything I wanted to today, and just because nothing is complete, you still did accomplish a lot today!! That’s 2 hours worth of editing you won’t have to do tomorrow, you started the process on several projects so the next time you sit down to work on them you will have a game plan. Just give yourself grace and remember you got done as much as you could in the time you had :)

Girl you are that friend that everyone has that has amazing advice but never takes it! Delicate some stuff, you don’t have to do it all. And even more importantly if you don’t do it all your still an amazing mom, wife, best friend, and entertainer. You’ve said it to yourself before, but the amount of stuff you can get done in a day doesn’t show your value! Your attention to detail and your massive heart is what makes you you! Look up ‘time blocking’ it changed my life with wanting to be a working mom💕

No Colleen don’t be upset the biggest thing you accomplished today was you walk up you accomplish something every day you are a loving wife and a loving mom and you accomplished making this amazing video for us( I know you won’t see this but why not)
Colleen : you CREATE every single one of those projects that you “have to get done“. You have a solid fan base. NOTHING would happen if you didn’t put out a new Miranda video for a few weeks. You’re rich now, with a popular channel(s) : why do you insist on pumping out content, pumping out content, at the expense of your mental health? You work for yourself! But then you constantly freak out about completing these things that no one is forcing you to do, things that you invented, deadlines that shouldn’t matter because you’re your own boss and believe me the world wouldn’t end if you took a week off to spend Christmas with your family. I know you have the New Years Concert that you promised everyone, but besides that, why don’t you take a rest? You’re so stressed out and you don’t have to be. You are the sole architect of that crushing to do list.

Colleen watching your videos before bed makes all the stress of the day melt away 🥺💕 Thank you so much for all that you do, you’re only one person and you shouldn’t be so hard on yourself! You should feel accomplished, in terms of work, you literally vlogged, edited, and uploaded! There’s countless influencers and public figures who can barely manage that! You’re a badass woman and you got this momma! 💕

I often beat myself up for feeling low or overwhelmed or sad because I am very privileged and blessed, but those days happen and that’s okay. Thank you for normalizing this♥️🥰 HUMANS FEEL THINGS

Colleen you don’t need to be upbeat for us. You can express how you feel. Even if the whole blog is about you expressing why you’re sad it’s okay. You don’t need to worry about that at all.
