Fascinating video James we finish cattle and the meal price here in Ni is alot more than what your paying plus you would be getting slightly more for your beef it's really starting to not add up that well anymore.9 this week got sheep sheared sold lambs and got silage baled so productive week for a change 👍

It’s a real sticky situation at the minute Paul. Whilst the beef price is good it works out but if it drops we will all be in a mess. 🤞 hoping it stays buoyant for a little while longer. 🥩 glad you’ve had a good week! 👍

Good luck with the silage Mate, very interesting video on your feed and weight gains 💪. I'm probably a 7 this week. You take care.

Thanks Gerry! I think a lot of people get into the trap of feeding what’s cheaper per ton, but not necessarily take into consideration the impact that has on growth. 🐮

@@baldysfarm is been saying that for years, it's the feed value per kg that counts.

Hey Tom. Thanks for watching. I haven’t uploaded anything in the past but more than happy to share it once we start selling. 👍

Very nice stock. You weighed three groups of animals. Are you showing average weight gain per total group or best performing group re two different types of feeding.
@baldysfarm2 жыл бұрын
I’d have to watch the video back to remember exactly but if I ever talk about weights etc I usually am talking averages and will never shy away from the bad either. It’s only fair to give complete clarity.

£295/t for your Berrystock ration, does that include a cost for your home grown barley straw?
@baldysfarm2 жыл бұрын
No that’s without straw, however our straw is essentially free as we sell the surplus and it more than pays for the rest. Arguably it’s a lot cheaper than silage anyway.
@robgarrett35412 жыл бұрын
The straw v silage has got me head scratching this year with wrap @ £70/roll (£3.18/bale). Straw = less bales, no plastic, less scraping out, less bedding, less work, but higher corn costs.

Hi fella i started following about 10 days ago . ive been using your videos as research, i was wondering if i could get a brake down of the cuts you can get and how much per 650kg beast. This would help me alot. like how much rump ect per cow
@baldysfarm2 жыл бұрын
Hi mate! Our cattle tend to kill out somewhere around 56% (bulls up to 60%) of there live weight, with the split per side usually being 1 to 2 kg heavier on one side. Your cuts will mostly depend on breed. Your continentals will have more rump etc which tend to be cheaper cuts but something like your stabiliser would have larger rib and loin cuts (more expensive cuts) but a smaller carcass weight and then your breed would also have an effect on the marble of the muscle which intern effects prices. So it is really difficult to give you a straight answer in afraid!

Hey Keith, sorry for the slow reply. Things have been manic this end. I was really keen to do Britain’s fittest farm but unfortunately I’m actually on my honeymoon for the finals this year! I’ll be there next year though. 💪

@@baldysfarm Good Man...also hope your honeymoon is fabulous and a 11 out of 10 👍👍👍...I have a question for you.....if someone owned a sizeable farm say 300 Acres.....and they wanted you to set it up an d manage it....is it something you could take on?

Yeh that would be something we could do. It would only take a couple of small tweaks for us to do that. 👍

Sorry about Hornblower James,...I don't care what people say about you can't get attached to cattle because they don't have a personality.... well their wrong.... Each of any cattle has a personality because you've known thier life and what they been through. A bit of a give away of what you've bought seeing it behind you !!!!!🤣🤣🤣 6 1/2 last week, my gran and my great uncle believe it or not had pet cow's eight years ago and they used to hand feed them biscuits but of all Kit Kat's!!! There's one that's still alive (he must be twenty by now ??) And he's a pet bollock and REALLY big !l👍

Thanks Calum, still a really sore subject but we have to do what we have to do. The are certain animals on the farm that you just remember forever (sometimes for the wrong reasons) and they are hard not to become attached to.
