Making my first custom Nendoroid doll (Zaide from Spectrum Blade)

Today's video isn't the usual BJD stuff because... well, I'll tell you about it in the video. But today I'm sharing my first custom Nendoroid doll. I sculpted his hair and boots myself, and made his outfit from some existing patterns I'd designed for PukiPuki and similar teeny-tiny BJDs.

Part of what made Nendoroid dolls appeal to me was that they're small. I have space for one last BJD, then everything else needs to be tiny so it can fit elsewhere in the house. Nendos are perfect for that! I plan to make the whole main crew from Spectrum Legacy, plus the villain. Should be interesting, right? Maybe someday, I'll also make Rune and Firal into Nendoroid versions...

He is so adorable! I love the thought in design and detail work you put in your dolls regardless of their size. I must also say, this video is inspiring. I'll definitely save it. Taking big and small leaps is important for creative people. Big and small changes in perspective help us grow significantly. "Done is better than perfect" always helps me push through and finish a project. I love that our pets can inspire and influence our creative work. Pieces of them can live forever that way.

Thank you for this video. I asked you awhile back about sewing small clothes, and this was super helpful for me. Zaide turned out very cute and even if he isn't the best work you've ever done, he was still worth the work you did. I'm glad your precious doggo had influence on the character cuz it really suits him and she can continue to live on. I really love how this doll came out. Makes me want a Lil Collection of nendoroid based on your books also xD we need to speak to goodsmile company! Also really taking the inspirational talk to heart. It's ok to finish something unperfect... I tend to get frustrated when things I'm creating don't look how I imagine or I can't do as well as I wished. It's hard to accept mess ups and not just give up. But I have to remind that I don't grow if I don't try.

Well done. Sewing clothes that small is hard (and deserves lots of praise). As a figma (and generally Japanese poseable figure) 'collector' if think having separate joints from the shoes might be better, as breakage of joints is common enough that there are companies that sell joints as replacements. But you did mention not playing with him a lot.

Lomi, I’m so sorry for your loss, your family must be having a hard time right now. I don’t know if this makes you feel any better but we really love your videos and many of us find them helpful for our own doll journey. This is random but if you’re looking for other similar sized bodies I highly recommend Picodo 9 or Picodo 10, they are taller than the GSC bodies but they are much higher quality and can stand up without support, the neck peg also fits onto Nendoroid faceplates perfectly. Also UFDOLL I don’t know if you’ve heard about them, they make 1/12 sized BJD style bodies and made them using Nendoroid type material rather than resin to make them quite affordable, it is a good option if you were looking for something more sturdy and can stand up on its own.
