the whole water thing is because Sadako was born and lived on an island called Izu Oshima in the book/OG movie. The kinds of powers she has is from ocean monsters that influenced her mother. The books get wayyyy crazier than the movie ever did though - how the curse is like a supernatural virus n stuff. Really cool!

Zet..... the ring literally means the ring of the top of the well if your standing at the bottom in the water. It's basically how the girls mother threw her down a well because she was driving the family insane and the ring is talking about the ring of sunlight disappearing as the top is placed over the well. It's a good movie, crap ending, but the story and lore is honestly worth a watch and I seriously recommend it

the reason why onryo is water themed is because she is an omen on japanese culuture. when someone dies from water it means a great catastrophe will come. ie. tsunami, typhoon and flood. In the movies there was a typhoon coming i believe.
