Here’s a simplified breakdown of the process: 1. *Eggshells Preparation* Eggshells are cleaned and dried. This step is crucial to remove any organic matter that might interfere with the chemical reaction. 2. *Reaction with Vinegar* The cleaned eggshells are then soaked in vinegar. The acetic acid in the vinegar reacts with the calcium carbonate in the eggshells to produce calcium acetate, water, and carbon dioxide gas. The reaction can be represented as: \[CaCO_3 + 2CH_3COOH → Ca(CH_3COO)_2 + H_2O + CO_2↑\] 3. *Evaporation* The mixture is then left to allow the vinegar to evaporate, or it can be gently heated to speed up the process, leaving behind the calcium acetate. 4. *Creating the Fuel* The resultant calcium acetate is then mixed with a small amount of alcohol (ethanol or isopropanol) to create a gel-like substance. This gel is flammable and can burn similarly to commercial Sterno fuel. The alcohol acts as the primary fuel, with the calcium acetate serving to gelatinize the mixture, slowing the burn rate and allowing for a more controlled and sustained release of energy.

The gel makes the alcohol burn slower and helps keep it from evaporating so quickly. You get a long burning fuel than just pure alcohol
@JoachimVampire2 ай бұрын
you've been answered already, but heck, if you are into experiments just get a metal container (such a soda can) and put it a bunch of alcohol and watch it burn (it's obvious but i'll say it anyways: be careful when playing with fire, do it in a safe spot and make sure nothing could catch fire if it is spilled accidentally) you'll see how the flame increases in size as the can heats up and the more it heats the more aggresive the fire it becomes. being trapped in a gel makes it so it burns slower and the flame doesn't wreck havock as fast, the spillage is also easier to control. basically you're trading burn speed and max temperature for safety and convenience. you don't allways need the alcohol burning at it's maximum... but yeah, making a proper soda can alcohol stove is simple enough so this is basically a cool experiment and that's it.

Calcium Acetate is itself a flammable compound that will burn to produce calcium carbonate, carbon dioxide, water and heat. The heat itself is enough to induce pyrolysis of the Calcium Acetate, which itself will produce Calcium Carbonate and Acetone, the latter of which will be burned in-line with the Calcium Acetate.
