Making Non Ethanol gasoline

we have all tried to start a small engine after it sitting for months only to find out the carb is all gunked up and it wont run..
Modern Gasoline has CORN ALCOHOL added to it and this "ethanol" will absorb water.. then it will sink to the bottom of your gas tank or float bowl and create havoc. I have watched a lot of videos but none of them really covered the easy process to do it..

Use 20% water, some fuel may contain as much as 15% ethanol. Let sit for minimum 24hrs to ensure suspended water molecules have settled out

You can only do this in a sealed container My container has an open top so perhaps I should fashion a lid if I want to wait that long. Research needs to be done on how long we should wait.

A little Marvel Mystery in the Oil (MMO) in the gas negates the ethanol and gives extra power via oil. Lubricates the top end while running also. Here in Florida with the heat and humidity its a must.

its absolutely necessary to remove this garbage from your fuel its corrosive in most engines, ,I`ve just had to drain my tank on the motorbike as it just will not start or run on E10 ,as soon as I put the separated petrol back in it fired up and runs a treat, no octane booster ! tho I will try it with as well to see the difference, ,great video thankyou !

Ok the food coloring thing is great. With some videos its hard to see a difference. Im not sure if 10 minutes to an hour will be enough time 2:39, 3:11. Some suggest 24-48hrs to fully settle or separate.

you said in the video you live in New Hampshire, i do too so why not just buy non ethanol gas at the gas station yes, it costs a little but much easier than doing all that work? Then what do you do with the ethanol/water mix you removed from the gas?

Thanks. Due to corn subsidies the destructive ethanol gas is cheaper than ethanol free. I'll be doing this for my small engine gas

After doing it a few times its simple. I did get a 5 gal semi transparent dirt bike fuel container. They have a ball valve and straight clear hose as well as meant to be fully inverted. Already has graduations on the side. Put 4.5 gal of 93-95 octane gas in it, add .5 gal of water. Add 3 drops green food coloring.. shake like crazy..!!!!. Then shake again.. Make a 2x4 cradke to hold it inverted.. let it sit for a few hrs.. Drain the green into a gallon milk jug until clear comes clear.. add an ounce of octane boost..done.! Burn the green residue in the fire pit. Makes cool blue colors..

FastFerment is a much better container for this. It is made for brewing beer, but it's a true seperatory funnel with a stand. It costs about $100, but it's a lot easier than tipping any of those containers.

So 2 questions. (1) since octain is boosted primarily with Ethanol based additives, Does starting with high octane just result in removing more ethanol and put you at the same finish octane as starting with lower octane and removing less? and (2) All the octane boosters seem to be ethanol based, so isn't adding them sort of undoing the removal process?

It's easier to get either a mid-grade or premium gasoline to compensate for the octane drop

Gasoline jugs are merely HDPE plastic.. so even food grade HDPE is safe. Where it gets sticky is the epa approved spout. Dont worry about all that.. Motocross gas jugs that are semi clear do the trick nicely. In our town, a local fuel distributor sells ethanol free 91 octane at their warehouse. The local Walmart gas station has a separate pump which sells ethanol free 87 octane. I usually get the 91, cuz my motorsickle likes that better. Just saying, it doesn't hurt to call around to different distributors to see if they offer "corn free," fuels.

Is the ethanol-free using the same fuel hose as the non-ethanol-free? If so, there may be quite a bit of ethanol-laced fuel within the hose. If filling a small container. Put the first gallon or so into your car, and then fill the container.

After the separation it'll probably be around 95 octane at least I think.

Ethanol has no rating so the remaining petrol will be the same as whatever the Octane reading on the fuel pump was.. so he says 93 Octane purchased - 93 Octane once seperated..Here in the UK we now have E5 fuel which means 5% Ethanol but in a month we are going to E10. ALL Classic Car and Motorcycle owners are pissed as its destroying all fuel lines, Rubbers adjoining the Carburettor components and rusting the often very old original petrol tanks in very short time. 🤬

Two problems. With the container with the spigot, draining would obviously be a problem because the bottle needs to be vented but the vent on this bottle is on the top which is the bottom when the bottle is inverted. Apparently, the spigot allowed enough air in to replace the drained fluid. The other problem is that you mentioned that you flipped the container over. But when you do that, you have to let the gas settle out again so why did you have it right-side up in the first place. The problem is that you have to find a way to prop the container up while it settles. You didn't mention that.

This was a preliminary test and video. Vents have been sorted out.. no issue.. Inverting cradle has been built.. no issue. Slowly inverting the container does not remix anything.. no issue.. Coloring the water helps a lot with seeing whats going on.. No issues.. I have done close to 15 conversions and its all dialed in now.. My ratios of ethanol pull are still in the 10% range.. But thank you

In some states you can buy ethanol free gas at the pump, but in many states, such as up here in the northeast, you cannot. Some places you can buy it in 5 gallon containers, but it'll cost you around $80.00.

It costs $20-$25/gallon for me. You can accomplish this a bit easier by using a siphon and siphoning off the gas into a second container. Maybe it's easier... for me, I would only have to do this once every couple of years to get enough gas to run through all my small engines.

Because ethanol is miscible in water (it fits in the space between water molecules) the total volume of ethanol+water would be less than 1 gallon.

I'm sure someone must have said this but your numbers where off in the 1st jug. 1/2 gallon is not 10% of 4.5 gallons and 1 gallon of water/10% ethanol of 4.5 gallons. You should have had FIVE/5 GALLONS OF FUEL then a 1/2 gallon of water for a total liquid amount of 5.5 gallons then you would or should have ended up with 4.5 gallons clean fuel and 1 gallon of 1/2 water 1/2 ethanol. If your still doing this you should look into a 2 or 3 gallon glass separatory funnel it makes it so easy so clean......

Okay I have a question, when I make ethanol free gas and when it is fully separated, if I pour it through a mr funnel would that work or would the ethanol go back into the gas?? If the ethanol is permanently in the water and won’t mix with the fuel again couldn’t i just pour the gas through the mr funnel and remove the separated water through that instead of the other

I dont see the need for a funnel. Simply inver the container upside down and drain until the colored water/ethanol has passed and only gas is left.

Nah..clear race gas container is already shaped like a funnel with a ball valve on it.. let it settle upside down.. when its ready put a gallon water jug and open the valve.. you can see the crisp defining line go down the tube.. Close valve as soon as its thru..down.. One shot deal.. Then i burn the ethanol byproduct in the fire pit. Grandkids love it..bright blue flame.

I’ve heard of up to 30% ethanol in supposedly 10% ethanol gas, hopefully a rarity, so don’t measure 10% of water to add as most guys do, add at least 20% to capture possible extra ethanol. And I do wonder how many of the whitish containers used are for water or wine and beer making, and not suitable for gas which would slowly dissolve the plastic, so you get rid of ethanol but add plastic 😱🤣😂🤣😱

The food coloring only clings to the water. When you drain the water /ethanol seperation it all comes out. Notice the pure gas is not colored at all. Ps: it is only 2 drops ..

I make this process very simple . Don’t use red dye! Use a squirt of two stroke oil in the gasoline because the engine will love the top cylinder lubrication. I use the big clear water bottle you have but I suspend my bottle upside down with a clear hose coming out of the bottom. I only wait a half an hour before I drain the water out but I aerate the fuel by blowing into the tube.

From what i read, researched the octane will drop about 2 %.. IE: 95 octane gas will go down to about 92-93 after conversion.. far good enough for any modern engine. I have a bottle of octane additive to kick it back up as well.. Its more about saving crusty internals and small carbs.

Im not sure where you live, all due respect but here in New England, USA we have 87,89,91,93,95 with 10% ethanol at ALL of our stations. Ethanol free is virtually non existent. Only found at boat landings and a few very sparce locations hrs away.. I buy 95 and convert.. add a little octane.. no issues.. my small engines fire right up in the spring..

I’m sorry you feel that way. The process is simple, easy far more cost efficient than driving an hour to a marina for a gas that costs a$1.50 more per gallon. The ethanol makes a great fire display for the grandkids in the fire pit. Water and ethanol make a tame colorful blue flame. I’m sorry if you feel this is a waste of time but for many here .. it is very helpful. Cheers

A lot of work for little for no benefit. For small engines would it not be easier to drain gas tank, run till gas is out. Next year start with a little sarter fuild? Just saying work smarter not harder.
