Thoroughly absorbing as usual. Marvellous to see a Morris JB van still going strong in the 22nd Century, I co-owned one in the 1960s, I had hoped that could have been the old girl, sadly not as my old banger was ex-GPO (they were obviously specified for a hard life) and had rubber mudguards (wheel arches) and two rear doors with small windows. That JB looks as if it may have seen a previous life as a newspaper delivery vehicle as it has a roller shutter rear opening as was common for distributing bundles of newspapers from Fleet Street to street paper vendors and newsagents.. I have to add, having Bernard Cribbins in the cast is a genius move for any filmmaker!

It's not just standing sets or studio grounds. Time is a lot of money in film production so actual locations close to studios get a lot more use than those further afield. If you need a lake or bridge close to Elstree/Borehamwood then Tykes Water Lake is the obvious choice. Country House - Edgewarebury. Country village - Latimer Parkland/forests/lake near Pinewood or Bray - Black Park. Or more open land - Burnham Beeches. Country village near Pinewood or Denham - Denham Village or Fulmer. Slightly larger market town, Beaconsfield. Oakley Court used to get a lot of use by Hammer because it was literally next door to Bray (and they had previously used it as a base so knew every cranny). There are obviously many more.

Don't forget that stunt performers of this era had to be especially tough. Most of the established ones were ex-army. If they hadn't actually been in WW2 then they would have had to do National Service and probably been to Korea or Malaya or any number of other end-of-empire hot spots. Safety equipment was minimal-to-none and probably improvised on the spot.

Eddie Powell who was also the mummy, Prem, in the 1967 Hammer movie, 'The Mummy's Shroud'. He did some adverts for the then Milk Marketing Board, and shots were taken of him, in his mummy costume, necking glasses of milk - the slogan of the M.M.B. at the time being, and I apologise: 'DRINKA PINTA MILKA DAY'. But yes, stuntmen of that era were a different breed. "I just bust my leg, guv. Get someone to run me up the hospital to get it put in a cast, and I'll be back after lunch, to finish off. Yeah, it does hurt a bit. Cheers, guv."

The amount of research you’ve done is incredible - how many old films that no one remembers did you have to watch? This kind of behind-the-scenes history is right up my (fake, built on a studio backlot) alley. I do believe that the Shepperton Manor House was used as the Evil Waxdroid HQ in the Red Dwarf episode ‘Meltdown’. RD was filmed at Shepperton from Series 4 to 11. Also, very minor quibble, it’s Warren Bait-tee, not Beat-tee.

Awesome detective work, love seeing how these old sets turn up in other movies. EDIT - a quick addendum, I see the area where the street was built and the field to the North of the studios where the mine set was located is now a housing estate and only one of the two tracks remains to the south east, where the van was filmed going by the farmhouse. A pity these locations don't exist anymore, but time moves on I guess

@@Dalek6388 I'm assuming the old manor house has gone too? There are still a few old buildings on site, but none appear to match up to the one shown in the background here. As an aside, a lot of old Amicus horror pictures were filmed on the Shepperton lot and some of these locations feature in those. Most notably, the footbridge which appeared in The House that Dripped Blood, amongst others. The actual house being located near squires road, along the second track. Just behind where we see the van passing the farmhouse. Anyway, keep up the good work.

@@Realm-of-Horror The manor house appears to be at least partially intact, but is now (I think) part of the studio, or some other business, rather than a residence. Google Maps has some street-views of the area, including what's left of the manor house (south of 'The Egg Recording Studio,' and near 'Sara Putt Associates,' currently), which looks pretty good. The boat houses appear to be gone, though, and there's a fence with what looks like barbed wire on top separating the lot from the river.

You would have thought that the art department by this time would have constructed a "Thing" to place inside the Daleks as they are hit/fall over to at least show SOMETHING as they fall apart. Every take of the Daleks separating, for any reason simply showed an empty shell.

As always, epic video! I didn't know this was the kind of information I've longed for with the Daleks production techniques. I'm very happy for you and how the channel has blown up. Well done!

I wonder if this sort of imperfections and set reuse would be considered in a modern day Doctor Who film production?

Sherlock Holmes has nothing on this. Absolutely brilliant. Plus seriously love that red Austin J Van.

Thank you for that - l was wondering what make it was, wrongly thinking _Citroen_ which is not dissimilar. (Which came first this J or the Citroen HY? Is it a Morris J or Austin J. I searched Google and got "Morris J.")

Interesting I was training as a cinema manager in those days and remember screening several of those films. I still have some publicity photo’s that we made to promote the St Trinians films.
