Thankyou Dominic for posting this…Ive been waiting a while to see how you did your magical patch…this is truly awesome, and highlights the awesome things that the Hydrasynth can do…like a good wine, this needs to be watched and drunk in slowly…so that you can learn all the aspects of this great synth…this really is genius in the way you’ve put it together, so thank you once again…please, more of these kind of videos, they’re worth a thousand reads of the manual!!

Watching this video reminded me of something I know a little more about than I do synthesisers (still learning). Here is an edited quote from page 43 of the book Hackers by Stephen Levy, describing the scene at MIT starting in about 1959 when a group of people calling themselves hackers (meaning playful tinkerer, not the modern sense of breaking into things with nefarious aims) were learning what they could do with their new toy: the TX-0, one of the first transistor-based computers: "You can create art and beauty on a computer. Samson's music program was an example. But to hackers, the art of the program did not reside in the pleasing sounds emanating from the on-line speaker. The code of a program held a beauty of its own. [...] Because of the limited memory space of the TX-0 ... hackers came to deeply appreciate innovative techniques which allowed programs to do complicated tasks with very few instructions. [...] some programs were bummed [optimised] to the fewest lines so artfully that the author's peers would look at it and almost melt with awe." There are a lot of parallels with the sort of thing that is going on in this video. The one I really want to draw is with the pleasure of taking a device with limited capabilities but many configurations, and finding out just how cleverly you can make it do interesting things. And then sharing your cleverness with your peers, and everyone learning from each other and collectively becoming more clever. This happened with the hacker community in the 1960s that eventually became the Free Software and Open Source Software movements. And I think modular synthesis in general shares these traits but the Hydrasynth too does put a lot of bits and bobs into a neat box with exactly the sort of qualities that suit this kind of hacker mentality.

i could never transfer the patch into my hydrasynth. It seemed to crash the hydrasynth manager. Looks like a great patch to learn from

I'm listening closely, trying to follow along with this, and then at 6:46 - "Now, let's dive into the most complex part"... You made me laugh. This is such a great video. I loved watching the performance, and seeing now how it gets broken down is amazing. It shows you guys care about inspiring your customers not just with rad hardware, but also giving high quality tutorials on how to use it in an effective manner. Thank you so much for this! In the future, it would be great to see a full performance like this broken down on each model of the Hydra-synth. It would also be great to see more on the ring mod and the Audio input functions. Finally, I'm sure some people would love to see more FM tutorials, as it's got a really powerful implementation on the Hydra synth, but it's a little different than say, a DX7. So its mysterious!

Perhaps youvhave some nice tricks for combining this incredibly powerful Arp with other modulation source?
