It was made in China - they literally invented fireworks and the first ever gun named “The fire Lance” in the 10th century meanwhile gunpowder was invented in the 9th by China. There were several other gun prototypes before the official gun in the 10th century also made by China.

The chinese invented the gunpowder sometime in 9th or 10th century. Since Chinese kingdoms and Indian kingdoms had long standing trade relations, it's likely that indians learnt the recipe for gunpowder before the Europeans did. The Europeans simply weaponized it and improved it

It’s not necessarily simple to make though you have to use the right kind of charcoal aka soft woods like pine and willow also the saltpeter(potassium nitrate) needs to be dry and the sulfur is self explanatory you also have to grind it very fine then add alcohol until it forms a dough like ball and then you put it through a softer to make small pellets and bam your done
