This is the story of recreating the Vehmaa sword. An in-depth exploration about the process of making a Viking pattern-welded sword.
A few years ago, I embarked on the challenge of recreating the Vehmaa sword. Unearth in Finland, this stunning pattern-welded blade showcases the Viking smith's incredible abilities, delivering a visually striking weapon.
I want to thank Mikko Moilanen for his contribution to this video in the form of a recent set of images of the original blade.
My interest in making this video is to engage you in the study of historical blades and to teach you a little bit about pattern-welding in the Viking age.
In you are interest on using the Thor 2 software to design your own twisted rods here is the link: (it should only be one line of text even if the link is broken up in two lines)

Having had the opportunity to hold his re-creation of this sword it gave me so much more respect for the original smith. Their skill was not to be taken lightly.

Thank you for taking the time to make this video! I was at the forge in when you orginally gave this talk and I've felt inspired since then to have my own attempt at making this sword, or at least one very closely inspired by it. It's incredibly generous of you to share your findings and your journey for others to learn from. I greatly appreciate it.

@@JesusHernandezBladesmith they inserted ads in seems like every couple minutes or if I bumped the slider forward or back to repeat something you said, it went to an ad. Not just your video, all of them they are aggressively intrusive. They shouldn't interrupt a video with ads in the middle.

Damn, I didn't think you'd be uploading a video the same day I responded to your year old comment. I don't have time right now to watch the whole video, but I've skimmed over different parts of the whole video, just from that alone I love the use of drawings, animations, and the actual process of forging pattern welded billets. I've been thinking about forging my own pattern welded sword for some time and this video will definitely help with that. Thank you for the presentation Mr. Hernandez Edit: the link in the description for the thor 2 software doesn't work

Dear Jesus, have been looking to your You Tub movies for a long time, I have Viking roots and family is traceable back to Harald Bluetooth. Wonderful and never seen that precise and dedicated work on forging. Always thought it was done by Wootz technology, but this as well . just a question of the ThorII link, it has been shortened in the KZbin version and doesn't work.

Apologize about the ThorII link. I'm away from my computer but I will look at it and see if I can fix it.
@JesusHernandezBladesmith
@JesusHernandezBladesmith Жыл бұрын
Harald, I have retyped the link for Thor II in two lines so it does not get cut up by KZbin. Make sure you paste them as one line. If that does not work then look for "Thor II Software Download ABS" in Google. It will take you to the ABS forum page where you can find the link scrolling a bit down that page.
