For those that don’t know, and are saying that they’ve “lived in Sheffield their whole lives”: This is a fishcake sandwich. The reason you’ve never had it is probably because you don’t order fish cakes from the chippy. Most other chippies will bread the fish cakes but in sheff they fry them. They’re pretty good, it’s just mashed potato and fish that’s deep fried. I’d say that this is probably accurate as the “Sheffield Sandwich”

I grew up in 1970's Sheffield & I can tell you right now, that sandwich looks like PERFECTION! & fish sandwiched between potato & then deep fried in batter is what we called fishcakes & I seriously loved them. Can't find them anywhere else in the UK lol & god knows I've tried & p.s for all the people saying that they're from Sheffield & never heard of a fishcake sandwich must not be old enough 🤭In the late 70's & throughout the 80's a fishcake butty was all the rage.
