That is really good mud. the best clay. I moved to florida USA and could not get any clay so I have to make my tandoor with Large size flower pot and a 200 liter metal drum. It turn out to be very nice big tandoor.

The preparation process is the most important of all. Bad clay=bad result. These guys know their trade perfectly. Grit added to the clay makes it a bit more forgiving. Working the clay to remove air bubbles.

An African tip / advice. If you put a fairly thick (strong) plastic tarpaulin on the ground, and mix the clay on top of that, fold the mix over in the plastic, tramp on the plasic, fold over, tramp, repeating the process, then you do not damage you feet with all the small stones and sticks that's in the clay. Long periods of wet feet, and the abrasiveness of the sand is not good ... We use the same method in building cob or strawbale houses... It also makes it easier to fold over bigger amounts of clay to wedge by pulling the plastic over, flipping a bigger portion of clay to work with, and slow down the drying process in the open sun ... Try it, it works very well. Regards from RSA. 🇿🇦

I've watched enough of these great videos to know that somewhere nearby is a family run metal workers shop making these steal shells with just as much skill and love as this guy who made the competed tandoor in this video. There is no pride in the mass produced here in the US and around the world with the make it cheap so it falls apart planned obsolescence philosophy so the customer has to repurchase often.
