I found some old computer speakers at Goodwill and turned them a pair of portable speakers.

I see this video is 4 years old.. But I would enjoy seeing this broken down into a 10 part series.

Would it have been possible to charge the battery with the original power cord you cut off if it was still intact? That is if you connected the battery to the + and - of the smoothing capacitor and not to the diode and main ground?

I have harman kardon pc computer speakers, it has good sound but the speakers only work when the cords/knob is in a different position

Are LiPO batteries similar to Li-ion (like 18650 laptop cells) in that they need a bms to prevent them from exploding, or will they simply stop trying to power the device once they drop below ac a certain voltage? I was also wondering if it matters whether you wire a battery to the dc output or ac input side of the full bridge rectifier. Right now I have the power leads stripped and toggle switched with a battery on the ac input. I can manually switch from house power to battery (no charging circuit yet) and it seems to be fine. Logically, if a full bridge rectifier can take both directions of current, it should also be able to take one direction. I also have the output of the transformer written right on it, so I made my battery based on that.

LiPo batteries will need a bms to prevent over-discharge. It technically doesn't matter which side of the rectifier you attach the battery to. The only difference will be the voltage drop across the diodes. In this case, the speakers were running at 12v and a fully charged 3s LiPo will hit 12.6v. While I'm sure the extra 0.6v wouldn't hurt anything, the drop across the rectifier brings it down to the sub 12v range.

Barkus Labs dude, thank you for your prompt reply! I guess I wasn't paying good enough attention because I thought you were on the output side of the rectifier haha. So the voltage drop could be considered a good thing then, right? in that case I am glad I went on the input side. As for the LiPO, I am assuming you're just keeping an eye on how long the speakers have been plugged in before removing the battery to charge it? I know this is an old video, but it's the kind of project I enjoy working on.
