My list for beginners Camera -> Sony Z90 - 2800 USD Audio -> Wireless lavaliere mic -> Sennheiser EW 112P - 650 USD, Boom mic -> MKE 600 - 350 USD Lighting -> A lot of choices here, what is important to look for is a good CRI over 90%. Good lights will cost you around 700-2000 USD depending on the power, accessories etc. Tripod -> Sachtler Ace M - 750 USD Accessories - Camera bag, batteries, media, cables - 1000 USD Extra - Headphones and monitor - 1000 USD
@jeffsaffron56472 жыл бұрын
These are absolute basics. You can go cheaper on audio, lighting or tripod but these things are worth the investment since these items keep their value (camera might be considered old in 10 years but mic will still be as good). With this setup you can a do a lot of work from interviews, corporate videos, social media, KZbin, weddings, even some basic live production in multi-camera configuration. All the cameras in stills cameras bodies are not very ergonomic to use, they lack the control options of proper video camera, they don't have XLR for audio and SDI out, ND filter. Cheaper ones don't even have redundant recording. Video cameras are also designed for basically non-stop recording without overheating, stills cameras are not. You might think you don't need these things at first but it will bite you in the ass eventually. I guarantee you that and I have 15 years in the field.
@jeffsaffron56472 жыл бұрын
In short.... Don't buy a stills camera, buy a video camera. You don't need exchangeable lenses and if you do you are probably not a beginner. Having a proper video camera, tripod, lighting and audio will also make you look more professional in front of the client. Instead of just being some guy who uses his DSLR he bought for vacations. Also having a good production monitor (and headphones) where you can show the client how footage looks (and sounds) is super important. Don't be the guy who shows the footage on build-in viewfinder. All these things show the clients you are actually prepared for the job you are doing and you are taking it seriously.

Haha nicely done, human nature being what it is, to start off asking what you'd left off. Of course you did discuss lighting but personally I'd emphasize it and consider it the visual equivalent of using a proper microphone. Certainly if you want to shoot people, and who doesn't, a cheap led, stand, and umbrella can have more impact than anything else you could buy. When you lower the ambient light enough to see the effect it's a revelation. You don't _need_ lights, no. But after a camera and mic I'd say it's #3 if you want to do pro-style work.

Are you saying that one can't deliver with a cheap dslr like canon 700d? I have pros using 60d and unless you're told they're using a canon 60d one won't know, I think the camera range you selected might make those who couldn't afford it feel less of themselves ... In all, my advise is, the best camera is the one you have and have mastered it's usage... All the same, great video... Thumbs up prof

Hi @UCk6I3CDTvdglChMrE5xRhLw, thanks for your question.The cameras that I recommend in this video are just camera that I felt would help those looking to get more professional looking results (in terms of resolution, frames rates and features etc). I completely agree with you that the best camera is the one that you have and always encourage people to make the most off what they have. Filmmaking and video production are all about skill, knowledge, creativity and experience, not the camera you shoot. In next weeks video I'm attempting to shoot a cinematic sequences with the cheapest camera on Amazon (not even kidding). Stay tuned and thanks for watching.

How would you rate a Panasonic G7 for small promo video gigs which pay only about 200$ for an entire production ? That is with 1 full day shoot, 4k drone, G7 dslm+3 lenses, 4k action camera, ronin sc gimbal, motorised slider, from car mounts to tripods to monopods nearly 20 accessories THEN 20 hrs of 4K post production with 2K delivery, color grading, titling, etc. Because for 200$ for the full day i feel this itself im offering overkill for 2 low. Does this above gear warrant a small production outfit ? Am i charging too less or high by the way ? Thanks for any suggestions in advance.
@LearnOnlineVideo4 жыл бұрын
Your price seems WAY too low! What country are you in?
@mgr55504 жыл бұрын
@@LearnOnlineVideo > Hi Steve, Im in India. No surprise heh ! I know, im stuck in this dud of a country :). Even that 200$ needs 6 months of follow up and coaxing for the so called "clients" to accept. They think about it as much as you would think and plan to buy a Rolls Royce.

@LEARN ONLINE VIDEO, Thanx for this video. I suggest all of us from the video industry finaly come up with some stanardized termonology re. the dfference beween "video" as in You Tube instructonal/infational Video (a guy or a lady stakn in front of a camera an talking) and video as in pomotional/commercial video (the o e that implies action, outdoor scenaries, a story.....). We shoild really use two different naea for these two different types of videos. Open for sugestions.
