I have made rattles with the captive rings. This one looks like a project that I will have to do. Very nice.

Hi Jason, I've been asked to make something for one of my colleagues who is going on maternity leave and I thought of the rattle. Hopefully it will turn out as good as yours if i get the sizes right - fingers crossed- also like the music, it sound a lot like the Penguin Cafe Orchestra

I watched this video and went and made one, unfortunately, I don't own a lathe but still very pleased with the result, even if it did take me 2 hours, so thank you for the inspiration

Hi Jason, greetings from The Netherlands... Can I have the dimensions (Inch or MM) you use, as your type of rattle is really wonderful... I know you also sell them, but I hope you will share some info. Many thanks!
@jasonmadsen59045 жыл бұрын
Gert Priem Thank you sir. I start with three layers that are about 150 mm x 45 mm x 15mm. After all three are glued together then the block is about 45 mm x 45 mm x 150 mm.

I kinda want to make baby rattles like that, but I'm super scared that they'll break it and choke on the little marbles inside.
@Jaqxy3 жыл бұрын
If it breaks it still won't release the marbles. It would break between the two big parts. The glue is extremely strong.

What are dimensions of the blanks you are using and what size Forstner bit for the hole? Also are those popcorn kernels or dried beans or bbs you place in the holes? Nice work.

Love these rattles. Just one question. Is the bank 150mm or 300mm in length. I reviewed the questions and reply’s and saw both numbers referenced. Any help would be appreciated Thanks in advance
@drgruber57 Жыл бұрын
Well, it's been a year. You probably don't care anymore, but my guess is that they were 150 mm. 300 mm would be REALLY LONG!

Love the Rattles they are Genius... but..Two things strike me here.... ....As a retired pro maker of wooden toys....... bound by the current ..Toy-Safety-Legislation... ..simply, your glue and the finish.... ..both need to be checked as being safe for infants to chew and to suck on.... because that is what babies do.... ..All the toys that made and sold on my craft stall for over 20 years had to conform ....You seem to have the size just right.... you have the rattlers safely sealed.... .. I would check glue safety.... and would use only pure olive oil or beeswax as a finish....I would also use fruitwood or cherry too... This isn’t a criticism just an observation , if you intend to sell to the general public.........You can get ...Your Toy-Safety ...info from your local Trading Standards department.

Measurements?
@chrissullivan29485 жыл бұрын
Hi Jason, if you are about and you have the time is it possible to see an image or have the measurements of the rattle. I know its 45mm x 45mm but looking for hole locations and bead distances. I'm looking to make one this weekend for a colleague who leaves us on maternity leave next week. Kind Regards
@jasonmadsen59045 жыл бұрын
Chris Sullivan I start out 300mm long, and drill 20mm holes 30mm from the ends.
@chrissullivan29485 жыл бұрын
@@jasonmadsen5904 Cheers Jason I've tried with 25 mm holes to the depth of one layer of timber - 40 mm from centre and only 40mm wide wood. I keep breaking through into the rounded end. Having watched the video again this morning I am probably making the centre to long. I appreciate you getting back to me. Take 3 - 2 days to go.
