Really cool. If you're interested in cosplay or prop-making, one tip I've learned from table top gamers is to use a wash to bring out the details of a piece. For example, after priming, paint the jaguar stone solid blue. Get in all the little nooks and crannies and let it dry completely. Next, make a "wash" by watering down some black or brown paint - any darker, contrasting color will work. Paint that liberally all over the stone, and then wipe it off, but don't wipe too hard. You want to leave some of that wash behind in the crevices, because that is what is going to really add character and depth to your piece. After the wash has dried, then seal it with some Mod Podge, like you had done, or you can use some kind of clear coat; satin, or whatever. Hope it helps.

A sponsorship ad that isn't incredibly boring? Damn. 3D printers are badass.
@lexxtheduck4 ай бұрын
Just sharing a bit of experience: You might notice that there're some weird scale-like textures, almost like stairs or frozen ocean waves on the jaguar stone if you look closely. Hard to describe but you'll see what I mean when you look at it. That's a very normal thing to happen and the good news is you can prevent it :) If you take the model in Cura or any other slicer and slice it in a standing position and then print it, with the jaguar basically facing you upright, this shouldn't occur anymore and your print will look a lot smoother :)

A cool product I’ve used for metallic painting/coloring is Rub ‘n Buff; it’s a pigmented wax that works great on wood and plastic props for giving them a smooth metal-like finish - especially after a priming of Plastidip or even over acrylic craft paint. It’s nice on craft foam, too, with or without a prime coat. I usually get it at Michael’s

Oh, also! My partner bought the Entina 2S as a first 3D printer last year and it was a great starter machine, but because we got it used it was missing a few things that ended up very frustrating…so if anyone’s reading this yes it’s a good starter printer but definitely get it new not used We did eventually upgrade to a different printer a couple months ago when the 2S died (it was a sad day, we were mid-print of an airbrush part).

looks pretty cool! coming from a background in painting miniatures (and I'm not expert at it) one very simple thing you can try which I think might help is using an ink wash which will add to shading and help bring out some of the details easily. Have a look if you feel up to it!

Hey Kai, don't know if u've seen them but as u mentioned u wanted to improve ur skills, I thought I'd mention a channel by the name Punished Props Academy. They have a whole line of videos in which they go step by step on different projects they've made. They've also printed numerous books with various tips and tricks, as well as projects they've done. They often have links in their videos to different products they use and and where they get some of their materials. Either way looking forward to seeing what u create next, as those RE props are frickin awesome.

I'm by no means a pro acrylic artist, but I like to use the mid-priced paints. If you go cheap on acrylic, then in my experience, it came out too much like water coloring. Blah... Originally, what I added on after I finished my canvas I used a spray similar to the Mod Podge. On a hunch, I switched to MP and the rest is history. It brings out my colors way better than the spray ever accomplished. Currently, I'm displaced. Once I find a new place to live, I will try out some of the variants of MP. Oh, yeah, MP can be used for mixed media pieces too. Newspaper sticks on it the easiest through my experience. Really have to apply it for magazines pages and what not that is glossy.

Oh I guess that would make sense. Mod Podge would be sort of like budget varnishing maybe?

Excellent timing my friend, since I've bought a 3D printer on AMZN called Anycubic Mono Photon 2 and it sucks, 1st of all, you have to use the USB-drive and the software on it but converting the STL files to pm3n takes a huge amount of time (10 files / hour). And, the main issue is that it didn't print anything except the test files. I've tried the high speed resin but nothing. I'll give it a shot with the tina2s.
