There are a lot of people dealing with this stuff (minus being a super star) and it's always very hard. My husband is 34 and he's never met his father, just talked on the phone 1 or 2 times. I think at this point in life, it's better to just leave things alone because there's nothing his father can offer now except for maybe some sorry answers for his crappy decisions.
