During Vietnam, Army gave me fixed wing training on Hawk XP and multi/inst on the B55 Barron. Both A/C were fun to fly. Got out in 1975, haven't flown much since. Flying is to rich for my budget, but videos like this keep my dreams alive. Thanks!

Kim, the C172 is a great IFR platform for training. I prefer the C182 for cross country. So at that first 6 month proficiency check after earning IFR do it first in the 172 and then do it again the next week in the 182 (or whichever SEL aircraft you fly the most).

Totally understand leaning on the side of caution. I think that's a product of age and experience. I'm tempted to say I'd jump on the chance to do IR training in a twin Baron. But multi flying brings it's own challenges, risks, etc. An IR does make you a better pilot, but hey... enjoy VFR flying for a bit.

Kim, you can easily fly the Baron as long as Kris is along. Solo is different. I assume the Baron can be flown like a single as long as both engines work and once it's flying on autopilot you are just flying instruments which is what IFR is about as I understand it. And you are somewhat familiar already. Aint no thang :) As for jet, jets are cool but what I'd really like to see is for Beechcraft to make a new Baron with jet engines. State of the art, light, sleek, composite with lean jet engines. And as good or better fuel economy than the current Baron. That would be convenient for the channel name.

@@oneninerniner3427 actually not at all. king air is a clumsy bus 3-4ton empty. What I'm talking about is 1/10 that weight. The Turbofan engines for such a weight, let's say MTOW of 800kg can be very small, like basketball size. 10-15kg each. About 100kg thrust. What most don't get and I didn't either is that turbofan engines are quite fuel efficient, you just need to pressurize the plane so you can take advantage of altitude. Actually I'd like to revise my previous statement. It wont have as good fuel economy as the Baron. The Eclipse 550 twin jet already has that while going double speed. It will be substantially better fuel economy. Think about that. Jet engines aren't vastly different from car turbos which retail for 300$. Imagine a jet engine for such a plane costing 2500$. It would never actually be that cheap but it actually could be. The missed potential here is bizarre. No one ever made a lancair 4 style turbofan jet plane. Nasa put out 100million$ about 25 years ago to develop something along those lines although they went a little bigger but Williams who were given 34million to develop the engine fumbled it completely and never released an engine. P&W sort of stepped in with the PW610 which is the engine the Eclipse uses which is a pretty good engine, blows every other jet away in fuel economy but the Eclipse is a 1600kg empty weight, not 300. What people never realized is that jet is just vastly better for small planes. Might not be ideal for STOL planes but let's not rule anything out. Jet has the potential to be LSA cost with private jet freedom. And actual freedom because every hour doesn't cost you 1500$ and service on the engines doesn't cost 600k$ each. And if only someone makes the engine, others will make the planes for it. It would be the revolution that should have happened in 1960. Ignoring for the moment the reality of UFOs. The world distance record belongs to a simple small off the shelf jet engine, the Williams FJ44-4. It went 40000km without refueling at 500km/h and no solar cheating. You tell me your Cessna has that range and I'll call you a liar :) it couldn't get to 500km/h if its life depended on it. Private jet freedom for LSA price.

So i was told not to get into a habit of repeating your lower altitudes as x.x rather than 1,600 or 6,600. This might confuse ATC that doesn't have English as their first language. Your thoughts Kristoff?

ATC already has an idea where you are. You are more confirming. Usually the controller you are talking to at 1,600 is not the same controller at 16,000. So it really isn’t an issue like some people make it out to be. With that being said, will say 1.6 instead of 1,600. Some will have strong opinions against that but I have never had an issue with a controller having any issues or misunderstanding what was intended.
