if you heat up the frying pan to 425 degrees F, you can get a pretty solid weld to the AR plate, however you will need to wrap the whole welded assembly with a fiberglass welding blanket to allow it to cool down VERY slowly.

I think the default(not modified) pan works best if you don't face it directly to gunfire, instead try to angle it, like doing ricochet.

Heat the pan with a torch and keep it hot while you weld it then put it in an insulated wrap to cool slowly. This should help to keep the welds holding. Also clean the surface before to bare casting.

You need to use a ni rod or nickle based welding wire in order to weld cast iron also try pre heating it to allow more penetration

if you were to pre heat both to a high temp then control the cooling so weld and both parent Metals cool evenly the weld should hold not to mention grinding away any coating would have helped the welding process as well
