This is a collaboration with Aaron from the 6061 KZbin channel. We're riffing on the term 'F-Bomb' which most people have heard of. Rest assured, we're not doing anything that will cause harm - we're simply doing our part to lessen the world's load of negative notions like Failure, Frustration, and Futility.
Check out the 6061 KZbin channel here: / 6061com

I have been a HUGE fan of Ron for years. Back in the days of American HotRod, Biker buildoff and so forth. Got me interested in sheetmetal fabrication, and came across this great talent he has. I had the chance once back in 2009 to work on an English Wheel for the first time. Our challenge that day was to make a 'dish' of 4' size. Which I managed. The "tutor" then challenged me to make a front fender (motorcycle). I managed that with a rolled over bead! Whoop!! Not perfect by any means, and definitely wouldn't have mounted it on a motorcycle LOL. But I loved the experience! Always wanted an english wheel of m own, even if only to make "throw away stuff" Hahaha Can not WAIT for the sheetmetal video of the F-Bomb and then the tail piece! You two guys rock my KZbin world!

Ron, The layout and construction techniques of the wooden form shown in this first part of the F-bomb are just wonderful to observe and learn from. The manner in which offcuts of card on which the segmental profiles had been transferred from the elliptical curve and then subsequently used as templates for the interlocking struts was very clever and innovative. These methods can obviously be adapted for similar 3D complex surfaces as a basic form work. Many thanks for sharing your wonderful skills and for the inspiration we get from it.

Hi Ron. The truth is that I do not know if I have ever commented on any of the videos of him that I have seen. If I have not commented on it, perhaps it is because I have been amazed by absolutely everyone I have seen and I have not reacted. I love how you combine mastery with delicacy. You cannot imagine the things that I have learned. I want to thank you for sharing your knowledge, teaching us some of what you know in such an instructive and altruistic way. As always, I will continue to wait, although it always seems very long, until the next video. Thanks. Greetings from Zaragoza (Spain). Marco Antonio

I'm watching you build this, all with pretty basic tools and straightforward techniques, and I can't help thinking that if more people knew how good it feels to make things with their own hands - the freedom and sense of accomplishment it brings - that the world would be a better place. Maybe no one thing is all that important, but the sharing of knowledge and appreciation of work done is positive and uplifting. And pretty cool. Thanks!

This sort of thing reminds me a lot of Paul Sellers woodworking channel. Watching you do it, it seems so natural and effortless. Your explanation of the task at hand is great and the step by step is awesome - long form is the way to teach (me at least). But I am certain when I get out to the shop to try and make anything at all it will end up looking like a car wreck - not that it will stop me from learning, trying, and practicepracticepractice. Just funny how it always works this way.

Yes, that marker holder is great -I can use and re-cap a marker pen easily with one hand! I appreciate the commitment to safety equipment for breathing, eyes and hearing. Neither of these heal really well, and once someone gets exposure allergy from breathing too much wood particulate and binder, well there's not much left to do there, that person is never going to feel fine ever again, as these compounds are part of our daily lives. Allergic sensitisation is not the most likely outcome, but why play russian roulette when people can protect themselves. I think people would do well to consider protection and safety measures the basic etiquette in all circumstances, and unfortunately, a lot of evidence shows that they do not.

Hey Ron, great as always. Bit of a random question but I was wondering what you do with all of the bucks and jigs and things that you make out of ply-wood. Do you save them and have a room somewhere full of them in case you ever need them again? Or maybe re-use the wood over and over again? Or do you just toss them when you're done.
@RonCovell
@RonCovell 3 жыл бұрын
Well, I very rarely throw away, or even re-work a buck. I guess I'm fortunate to have enough storage space to keep them all, and many were designed so they can be disassembled and laid flat, making them much more compact. I don't re-use bucks very often, but the few times I have, I was sure glad I saved them!

well that was awesome! I enjoyed seeing the sander in use. I'm really looking forward to the sheet metal part! so, I have a question: I guess those paper patterns for all the holes don't last too long, but you do a lot of holes. would it be easier to make sheet metal circle templates that match all your hole saws, or is it not worth the trouble?
@RonCovell
@RonCovell 3 жыл бұрын
I suppose sheetmetal circle templates would last a lifetime, but I normally get a few years of service out of the chip-board ones. I also use random objects to make circles - rolls of masking tape, the base of a paint or oil can, etc. If you look in the left background of this video shot at Chris Runge's shop, you will see he has made a nice set of plywood circle templates in larger sizes - a very practical idea! kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZiTg42BbM14i68
