Oh hey ! A fellow self-taught dev pushed into undertaking a massively ambitious project (because the AAA industry couldn't be arsed to make a single good game in their niche for over a decade) who tried getting started on Unity a couple of times, bounced off and eventually found Godot before finally settling in that creative groove. My niche is sci-fi combat flight sims, and my Nemesis is Star Citizen, but the feeling remains the same. I wholeheartedly support you.

Looks cool, best of luck in the project. One element of the longevity of the RPGs of the past that really helped with their staying power was them being packaged with devolvement kits allowing for easy modability by the wider community. Are you taking into consideration design choices that would allow for easy implementation of 3rd party content? Be it via serialization of data that can be modified by hand or via, or if you were to include parts of the project that could be rebuilt.

Bethesda has always been garbage. They peaked with Morrowind, which at the time was overshadowed by Bioware's early insanely customizable and player responsive expansive masterpieces. Bethesda came out with Oblivion at just the right time to catch kids who's only experience with RPGs was WoW. To all of us older gamers it was a massive step backwards. Then they made Skyrim, which was Oblivion but with basic standards and that was it for most of you. Now that you've gotten older and seen what the genera can be, you're finally getting how bad Bathesda has always been. Take a look back at Oblivion. It's a shallow mess which seems to be made out of bugs. There is zero reason why this company ever should have been a success.

Morrowind for sure benefits from being older tech, the flexibility of not having voice acting made the cost of adding a quest to morrowind must be penny on the dollars compared to starfield even when adjusting for inflation
@littlebeefbeefpro19209 ай бұрын
So I would recommend adding is a tooltip when hovering over key words (a thing from strategy games like victoria 3 and crusader kings 3) (for example in a character customizer if a player hovers over luck with their mouse then it will tell them what that skill is useful for) (although that is definitely against the school of thought that is show not tell)
@dosbueno2gud9 ай бұрын
dude I love the hell out of that mechanic, Wrath of the Righteous does something similar whenever it uses a proper noun from it's setting, basically, anything your character should know will be communicated to the player through tooltips over names, but if you already know the setting you don't have to use them. Really good mechanic, I would love to use it.

New Vegas was the peak of 3D RPGs; the graphics were just good enough to not hurt your eyes and the controls weren't janky, you could still make meaningful decisions that would affect the Mojave, there were options, there was exploration off the beaten path, and there were still actual RPG mechanics. That's what I miss about RPGs- them actually being RPGs.
