That's a great idea, these sharp box shaped bucks had webbing even on my best attempts. I'm guessing commercial applications account for some excess and trim it off when they have box shaped forms.

Sickk!!!! I have one question what kind of filament u use?
@AndyMakes
@AndyMakes 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you!! I generally just grab the colors I want without paying attention to the brand. For stuff that isn't going to be out through much stress I don't try to make sure the filament is the best. For this toy specifically I grabbed Ramberry Silk PLA, which just happened to be the cheapest Silk PLA on Amazon at the time. ( Probably not the best though )

I actually used regular posterboard, in the US they sell this stuff at almost every store for school projects. Real product packaging uses paperboard but it's too thick for most home printers

Hey, love the toy itself and your videos! Wat this toy painted or is there ways to multicolor print? Also what exact material do you use for printing to get a good result? Thank you in advance, love your channel, got my follow!
@AndyMakes
@AndyMakes 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! This toy is a multicolor print, I separated all the pieces of different colors and printed them out individually. The best results I get are with resin printing though, and for those painting would definitely be the way to go.
@medrie95
@medrie95 2 жыл бұрын
@@AndyMakes thank you for answer! i don't own a 3d pronter and not that into details about it, but i do 3d tho. so when i'll send my model out for printing what do you suggest i tell em? I need it printen with resin? Or is there any specific names you could suggest! Sorry for bothering, big thanks!
@AndyMakes
@AndyMakes 2 жыл бұрын
@@medrie95 Ooh okay good to know. So regular 3D printing FDM will tend to have a lot of visible layer lines, but if you're ordering it you don't have to worry about getting good results, they typically wont ship anything with defects and will reprint it til they get it right. Some of them also offer SLA printing (typically resin) which has barely visible layer lines that paint would cover up with no problem and it will look like a toy you can buy off the shelf. Both this video and the one I have with the pencil figure used FDM printing so it does get pretty good results and will likely be cheaper. The pencil video covers how it can be painted if you're curious.

what material did you use to print your mold before placing into vacuum former as PLA melts?
@AndyMakes
@AndyMakes Ай бұрын
I actually did use PLA, the vacuum from plastic cools off before it can soften the PLA. I did notice if I didn't wait a minute in between forms that the PLA started to get a little soft but never to the point of deforming.

You know you don't have to slam down the vacuum former to get a good mold.
@AndyMakes
@AndyMakes 2 жыл бұрын
I wish my vacuum former had a softer latching mechanism, it requires a good bit of force to release it. I've found I end up with a better result if I keep that force going all the way down. If I try to unlatch it and then go down slowly I find that I end up jerking back up from all the force needed and causing the plastic to fold on itself

I don't think these have brand names, and I don't know where you live, but I found mine at my local grocery store in the small school supply section they have. Looking online, I noticed Walmart has them for even cheaper at 33 cents each, I'll put a link in the description, but if you're in the states, you should be able to find this at just about any store. It's the posterboard that has one glossy side, one matte side and you'll print on the matte side (Unless you have a printer that can print on the glossy side)

i am trying to design packaging for a client for the first time. she gave me a pdf template of the packaging but i am unsure of how to translate it so the dimensions are correct in photoshop. Any advice?
@AndyMakes
@AndyMakes 2 жыл бұрын
does the template show the dimensions the packaging should be? if so, there's rulers on the margins of your window as well as a ruler tool (found under the eyedropper's dropdown) that can be used to measure so you can ensure that if it doesn't open to the correct size initially, you'll be able to resize it accordingly.
@AndyMakes
@AndyMakes 2 жыл бұрын
For instance, if the template says a side is 5 inches, you can import it into photoshop and use the ruler to measure the size of that side. if it's not measuring at 5 inches then you can make the entire template bigger or smaller until that side matches what you need and as long as you're resizing the entire thing together you should retain the correct proportions.
