Making the STAIRS Took me Longer Than the HOUSE / OFF Grid LOG CABIN Building (S4 Ep3)

After one and a half year I've finally finished the stairs. It took me less to build the main wall and roof of the house. It was not as nearly as much work, but I've been searching for the right logs, branches and other pieces of wood to make the stairs as they are and it took forever to have everything sanded, the wood dried and in place. I don't regret a single second of the time invested into the stairs as they probably are my favourite part of the house and I enjoy doing the creative work.
Thank you for watching!

Absolutely is what happens. The roof eves is so low that it blocks the outward view from windows and incoming light and the step down from upstairs room is terrifying. A for effort but not without a couple design failures.

I must admit that when I first came across your log cabin build, I thought "Hmm, a basic log cabin. How hard can that be?" So I watched, and then saw your mad skills with limited tools, on your own. Then I realised that this isn't 'just' a log cabin, but it is a beautiful, gorgeous home with so, so many amazing touches, it's a work of art. You, Sir, are a genius. And as well as the stunning home you've built with your bare hands, your videography skills are wonderful with such amazing images of the landscape around your home.

Nice to meet you. I am Japanese. My name is Jota Inui. I was a teacher for 27 years, but I had a stroke and had to quit my beloved job. And now, I am creating woodwork art works using world heritage Yakusugi and sacred trees. I have a variety of disabilities due to cerebral infarction. The right face has pain from being cut with multiple kitchen knives. And the left lower leg was left with a disability that was burned by the gas burner. Except when I'm sleeping, I'm living in a living hell of intense pain. In that living hell of pain, I am creating fishing charms and woodwork art works using the world heritage Yakusugi and sacred trees. I watched your KZbin and was deeply moved. Because you are challenging yourself with a very difficult task by yourself. And you are always working hard to make your dreams come true. Your home build is amazing. When I look at your house building, I feel that you are creating a work of art called a house. When I saw you working hard, my heart warmed and I thought that I had to work harder. Even though I am disabled, I have much to learn from your way of life. You are such a wonderful human being. I respect you with all my heart. And you give me the strength to survive. Sincerely thank. thank you very much. I look forward to your success. you are a really great human being.

Nik, I’m not sure how much pleasure you received out of creating this artistic, magically pleasing and whimsical staircase, but I was mesmerized with a sense of calmness and a oneness with those wood pieces, and that they were being cherished forever on display and very useful for the future. What a calmness one can, could obtain just by sitting on that staircase in meditation. The warmth of the sun, the changing of the shadows, the strength from the wood and plant life, just WOW! Awesome creation! I’m suggesting that you add a water feature somewhere in this area, it doesn’t have to be big, just an added sensation of calmness when sitting there or getting out of bed especially. Ohhh, I can hear birds chirping too ha!

I always appreciate someone joining the "stairs are the hardest part of building a house club". My first big building project was building a cabin in the woods on my family's property back in the early 1980s. Most of the wood was milled at a family run mill at the end of the dirt road I lived on. I traded hours working at the mill for lumber. My stairs were of similar design to yours, but I did not slot the carriage all the way through. I slotted them from the back to an "imaginary" line and slid the treads in from the rear. It came out nice, but almost ended my life of woodworking before it got started. : P
